This Teacher’s Instructional Presentation Hand-out entitled “Enjoy Learning With Science” is part of the requirements in Educational Technology 2 under the revised curriculum for Bachelor in Secondary Education based on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO)-30, Series of 2004. Educational Technology 2 is a three (3)-unit course designed to introduce both traditional and innovative technologies to facilitate and foster meaningful and effective learning where students are expected to demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature, application and production of the various types of educational technologies.

The students are provided with guidance and assistance of selected faculty members of the College through the selection, production and utilization of appropriate technology tools in developing technology-based teacher support materials. Through the role and functions of computers especially the Internet, the student researchers and the advisers are able to design and develop various types of alternative delivery systems. These kind of activities offer a remarkable learning experience for the education students as future mentors especially in the preparation of instructional materials.

MatterAll the things around that surround us are compose of matter. From the food that we eat. The liquid that we drunk and even the air that we breathe is compose of matter. The clothes that

we wear are also composing of matter.

At the end of the chapter the student should be able to know all about matter.

Lesson 1 States of Matter

Matter has three states; these are solids, liquids and gas. How they are different or same to each other?

Solid Keep their own shape; it has definite volume, it also can be similar or different in color, size or shape

Liquid

Things that flow definite volume but has no definite shape. They can put in jars, bottles, glasses, cups, cans, containers and the like.Liquid differ in color, taste and smell.

Gas Gas is the third state of matter. Is something we can feel but not seen.It has no definite volume and no definite shape.

ObjectivesTo identify the three states of matter. To appreciate the three state of matter. To draw the three state of matter.

OBJECTIVESTo know the changes of matter. To express the changes of matter. To illustrates the changes of matter.

Lesson 2 Changes of Matter

Matter can change from one state to another. Like solid become liquid and liquids became solid. There are two changes of Matter the Physical Change and Chemical Change.

Physical Change it is change in appearance, shape or form of matterbut the composition or the content of matter is still the same. One example is melting of ice. The content of this matter is still no changes.

ContentsBack Next

Page 25: Enjoy Learning With Science

Chemical Change is a change not only in the size appearance, and shape but also in their content and properties. One of the example is burning of wood when the wood is burned it lost their physical appearance and a new characteristic formed – because the wood became ashes and the properties and content of the matter change.

Remember this kid!!!Physical change is changes in appearance, shape, or form but not in compositionChemical change is change in appearance shape, form and also in composition

OBJECTIVESTo knows to measures matter. To expresses the measurement of matter. To use the measurement of matter.

Lesson 3 Measurement of Matter

An instrument for measuring weight or mass is called a weighing scale or often, simply a scale. A spring scale measure force but not mass, a balance compares masses, but require a gravitational field to operate. The most accurate instrument for measuring weight or mass is the digital scale, but it also requires a gravitational field, and would not work in free fall.

Measuring Mass:

To measure a mass we need a balanced; this kind of device helps us to measure mass. Mass is the amount of matter in a body. The relationship between gram and kilogram is expressed as:

Page 30: Enjoy Learning With Science

Balance use to measure mass.

1,000 grams (g)= 1 kilogram (kg)

How to measure Volume:

Volume is the amount of space that an object occupies

An instrument use to measure volume is a graduated cylinder

To measure the small volume of liquid you can use medicine dropper or teaspoon. Is use?

Liter (L) and milliliter (mL.) are the common units of volumeThe relationship between Liter and milliliter is shown as:

1,000 mL = 1L 5 mL. = 1 teaspoon1 mL = 20 drops

Different Substances

Lesson 4

There are many substances. We can classify substances into two; the useful substances and harmful substances.

OBJECTIVESTo define the different kinds of Energy. To value the different type of Energy. To use the different Energy in our daily living

Lesson 6

Kinds of Energy

There are so many forms of energy like; light energy, electrical energy and heat energy.

Light Energy

Do you imagine how our life without Light is? Our natural Light comes from the Sun and stars. And the artificial Light comes from the human. One of these examples are; candles, electric bulb, firewood, lighter, match and lamps.

Do you know how light travels?

You must watch how light focus against the paper. You see a ray of light coming from flashlight

Did you know that light travels in a straight line from its source at a speed of 186,000 miles in one second or 300,000 Km/

Electrical Energy

Can you imagine life without Electricity? How is life without television, electric fan, radio etc. These are the examples of appliances that we need to make our things work and make our life easy.

Electricity > is a stream of electrons moving over a conductor. The wires are made of copper which conduct electricity and make it flow where it is needed. The best conductor is silver it is also expensive.

How important electricity is?

Electricity is a lifeline to a modern industry, electricity make our life easier because all of our appliances are operated by electricity.

Heat Energy

Heat is a form of energy that is necessary to all forms of life on earth. Can you imagine life without heat? All of us need heat energy; one of the sources of heat is firewood.

Effects of Heat on Solids

Melting is the changing of solid into liquid one of this example is melting of margarine..

How Heat Help Us?Heat can help us to cook

food it also help us to make body temperature became normal

ObjectivesTo define action and reaction forces. To express the balanced and unbalance forces. To draw an object using balanced and unbalanced forces.

Lesson 11

Action and Reaction Forces

Action is when you push an object.Reaction is when an object pushes back on you with an equal and opposite force.

See the picture above. The boy throws the ball on the wall (action), the wall pushes back with an equal and opposite force (reaction).

Balanced Forces Look at the picture. The weight of the flower vase is exerting a downward force on the table. The table is exerting an upward force on the book. The flower vase does not move. The two forces acting on the flower vase is balanced. When forces acting in an object are balanced there is no movement.

Unbalanced Forces Look at the picture. The more people exert greater force than a single one. They can pull a rope towards them. These two forces are unbalanced. When unbalanced forces act in an object, the objects move towards the direction of the greater force.
