Lindsey Wilson is ateam that has shown some tremendous improvement, saysCronic, a member o both Coweta and Cherokee CountysSports Hall o Fame.

As Reinhardt builds their programpitting their rookieplayers each week against more experienced teams across theSouth improvement is the standard by which Cronic, a coach

We practice integrated medicine that utilizes a variety o treatments and approacheschiropractic, spinal decompression, physical therapy, injections, radio requency ablation, spinal cord stimulationto minimize the patients pain without the use o narcotics.

We truly care about our patients and want to help them become well. So, we meetas a team, discuss each patient, and together we come up with a plan that we think

will be eective, Cavaciuti, a chiropractor, explains. Our patients have the benet oour combined knowledge and expertise in a variety o disciplineswe have a physiciandouble boarded in Family Medicine and Holistic Health & Wellness as well as a boardcertied Physiatrist (Pain Management & Rehab) on sta along with a massage therapistand physical therapist. We usually start with the most natural, least invasive options, depending on our patients unique history and symptoms.

For example, Cavaciuti says i a patient comes in with sciatic pain, they will run test andusually take a natural conservative approach rst. We might try a natural plant-based shotthat reduces inammation, physical therapy, or a decompression machine. I that doesnt

work we have a physiatrist on sta that can administer more aggressive therapies likeepidurals and radio requency ablations that treat the specic nerve causing the pain. Telast thing we do is a spinal cord stimulation trial in which we insert a tiny wire that sends asmall current that reroutes the pain signal and eliminates the pain. We try this procedure, and i it works, we reer them to a neurosurgeon or a permanent simulator implant.

When Cavaciuti rst began practicing integrated medicine with an MD as his partner, they were considered a low-level pain treatment clinic. He recalls a patient that was initiallya 10 on the pain scale, and with treatment he could get him to a ve consistently. He was

We are oten told that pain is a part o growing older-we justhave to learn to live with discomort in our backs, knees,

shoulders and eet. For millions o Americans, a 5 on a scaleo 1-10, is a good daythey cant remember a pain-ree day.

Perhaps theyve tried a variety o unsuccessul treatmentsmedicines, physical therapy, chiropractic careand have become

resigned to adjusting their lives, limiting activity and avoidinganything that exacerbates pain Tese are the patients that

Dr. Eric Cavaciuti, D.C., likes to see coming through the doors othe practice he co-owns, Georgia Medical reatment Centers and

Medical Weight Loss Clinics. Because chances are,he and his team o specialists can help them.

always in the back o my mindI kept wondering what else I could do or him. Tatled me to do research and eventually add a physiatrist to our team so that we would havemore treatment options. When our new physiatrist did the spinal cord stimulation trial, our patient was nally pain ree, and has remained pain ree since having the stimulatorimplant. I was so happy that we were able to get him to zero on the pain scale.

Cavaciuti says the team members have diverse backgrounds but they all share onegoal. We want to alleviate our patients pain and restore their quality o lie, and weusually succeed. Te patients come to us and give us their trust, and our mission is totreat them with love and compassion. I tell my sta to treat our patients like they areamily members. Every case is dierent.

Oten weight-loss patients coming to Georgia Medical reatment Centers arepeople who have tried other diets, programs and pills without success. Tey arelike our pain patients who have tried everything else, and we are their last resort. But we can usually help them even though nothing else has worked, Cavaciutiarms. Many aches and medical conditions are aggravated by excess weight, so it

is important to address the weight problem and nd a program that works.

Te weight loss program includes nutrition counseling, weekly injections and drugtherapies, i needed or appetite suppression. Its an educational process that eaturesa customized reduced-calorie diet and light exercise. Were constantly monitoring and

weighing our patients each week and helping them ollow through. Our patients losean average o 17 pounds per month or about our months. And most o them are ableto keep it o. Were constantly evaluating our program and updating it i needed.

Whether its reducing pain or reducing weight, results are what drives Cavaciuti andhis sta at Georgia Medical reatment Centers and Medical Weight Loss Clinics. Atthe end o the day we just want to give our patients the best care to achieve the bestresults possible, he arms. Its so gratiying to see their quality o lie restored.

When most people in Cherokee hear gold belt, they think o ashiny gold-tone ashion accessory that is worn around the waist. But gold belt has a much dierent meaning or local members othe Allatoona Gold Panners. Tis group o recreational prospectorsmeets requently on the banks o creeks here in Cherokee thatare located in the Dahlonega Gold Belt and pan or gold. Teynearly always nd at least a ew akes o gold, however most o thecountys protable deposits were cleaned out in the 1800s whenthousands o prospectors descended on Georgia and Cherokee was

home to 41 active gold mines.

Tere were more than 500 recorded gold mines in Georgia, notes Rob Kelly, a local master gold panner and member o the

Allatoona Gold Panners. Historians say that Cherokee Countywas the most successul gold producing county in Georgia, and alsoproduced some o the purest gold in the country. Tese days, youreprobably not going to strike it rich, but panning is a good way toenjoy the outdoors and have some unand its less expensive thangolng. We call it recreational gold panning because we do it orun, not or prot. On a good day, even with gold as high as $1,800per roy ounce, you might make minimum wage.

Gold FeverGold was rst ocially discovered in Georgia in the 1820s,

and thousands o optimistic prospectors headed this way in theGeorgia Gold Rush o 1829. Many discovered gold in the creekso the Dahlonega Gold Belt that extends beyond Dahlonega andcuts diagonally through the center o Cherokee County. Goldever led to the State Gold Lottery o 1832-33 in which the landthat belonged to the Cherokee Indian Nation was rafed o in40-acre parcels. Gold ever ultimately caused the demise o theCherokee Nation. Because o the presence o gold, Congress passedthe Indian Removal Act in 1836, and the Cherokee people were

orcibly removed rom their ancestral lands in 1838 and marchedto Arkansas and Oklahoma on the inamous rail o ears. By theearly 1840s, most o the easy gold had been ound in NorthGeorgia, and when news o the Caliornia Gold Rush reachedGeorgia, many miners moved west in search o easy gold there.

Honey Holes TodayAlthough there is likely not an abundance o easy gold let in

Cherokee County, there are some old honey holes around whereyou might discover gold akes. I you dont own property in thegold belt, Kelly suggests that you explore some o the creeks alongLake Allatoonas shores near the Sixes community. Many o the oldgold mines rom the 1800s were located in this area. Te creeksare under the jurisdiction o the Army Corps o Engineers, andthey have strict rules prospectors must ollow. Basically, you cantuse dredges, sluices or metal detectors. You can only use a pan anda shovel, and you can only pan the stream bednot the banks,Kelly explains. Kelly says his group always makes it a point to leavean area looking better than they ound it. We rell our holes andtake a garbage bag with us to pick up any litter that is in the area.

Tis year, Cobb EMC celebrates 75 years o saely deliveringreliable, competitively priced electricity.

In 1938, the advent o electricity marked a crucial turning pointin our regions economy. In a arming era when mules still pulled

wagons along dirt roads, investors were not willing to take thenancial risk o putting up power lines in such a rural area. But allo that changed with President Franklin D. Roosevelts creationo the Rural Electrication Association, now known as RuralUtilities Service (RUS). Rural residents across the nation bandedtogether to establish low-cost cooperatives, and the neighborhoodEMC was born.

Much has changed in 75 years. In August 1938, crews beganwork on the rst 160 miles o Cobb EMC line. oday, thecooperative has expanded to more than 10,000 miles o lineacross north metro Atlanta and Southwest Georgia. Cobb EMCscurrent membership o more than 177,000 is a ar cry rom the503 homes and businesses that were originally energized whenSen. Richard Russell threw the switch in December 1938.

Does Your IRA Play By The Rules? For years, taxpayers who made mistakes with their IRAs usually

corrected the errors and notied the IRS and escaped unscathed. Teagency was not as strict with enorcing penalties, and taxpayers otendidnt even hear rom regulators.

But as the government looks or new sources o revenue, those days

o IRS leniency may be ending. Te agency was slated to report to thereasury Department in October about how it will pursue taxpayerswho have made mistakes with their IRAs. Its not clear when the newscrutiny will begin.

What are the most common mistakes taxpayers make with theirretirement accounts? Here are some o the top errors, along with adviceon what to do and how to help prevent them in the uture.

    1. Making xcss contributions. For 2012, the IRS allows you tocontribute up to $5,000 to your traditional or Roth IRA $6,000i youre 50 or older (or 2013 the contribution limits increase to$5,500 and $6,500 respectively). But sometimes people unintentionallycontribute more, Brown says. Or those with Roth IRAs may continueto contribute the maximum to their accounts ater their income hasexceeded the eligibility requirements ($110,000 or single lers,$173,000 or joint lers in 2012). In 2013, the maximum eligible

income amount is up to $112,000 or single lers and up to $178,000or joint lers. You can x that by recharacterizing the contribution intoa traditional IRA.

Contributing more than the eligibility limit can cost you: Te IRSlevies a 6% tax on the excess contributions made each year. Oten thesemistakes arent identied or years, and it can really add up to a largepenalty.

    2. Forgtting to tak distributions. I you have a traditional, SEPor SIMPLE IRA, your required minimum distributions must be takenby April 1 o the year ater you turn 70. (Roth IRAs dont requireminimum distributions or the IRA owner.) Many people assumethe date is April 15 because thats when tax returns are due. Ater theinitial distribution, the deadline is December 31 going orward. Forindividuals delaying their rst distribution, that means there may be twodistributions required in the same tax year. Te recommendation is to

set up automatic distributions to make sure those withdrawals happen.Te penalty or missing a distribution is sti: Te IRS can ne you 50%o the amount that should have been withdrawn.

    3. Improprly withdrawing from an inhritd account. Unlikespouses, nonspouse beneciaries cant roll inherited IRA assets into theirown IRA. Instead, they need to set up an inherited IRA and continuetaking the required distributions rom that account. Once you cash itout, you lose the tax-advantaged status o the assets.

I you have made a mistake with your IRA, correct it immediately, and then notiying the IRS. Regulators oten orgo penalties i thetaxpayer xes the problem but will that orgiveness continue?

And with the potential or increased IRA scrutiny, the best deensemay be a good oense. You can help avoid IRA errors by: KnowingtheIRArules, andworkingwithnancialprofessionals

    who do

Meetingannuallywithyourtaxandlegaladvisors, aswellasyourFinancial Advisor, to review your nancial and retirement plans

Reviewing your retirement plan at major life changes forinstance, ater a marriage, birth or death and at ages 59 (theage you can start withdrawing rom tax-advantaged retirementplans) and 70 (when distributions rom the account must start)

Consolidating several retirement accounts into one to makemanaging them easier consider previous employer retirementplans along with IRAs held at dierent nancial institutions

    Keepingdetailedrecordsofyouraccountsforwhenquestionsdoarise

Its important that you take some time to make sure your retirementaccounts are in order. A review with your Financial Advisor will helpyou avoid common mistakes and shield your hard-earned retirementsavings rom potential penalties, thus helping to ensure that the assetsare available when you need them.

Barrys story is about amily, three generations o it, and not in theway typically expressed by politicians.

When I was young, i I complained about something, myDad would simply ask: well, what are you going to do about it?Loudermilk says. Tis way o thinking really shaped my lie, andit is actually how I ended up in the Air Force, the State House andSenate and now the campaign or Congress. When I see problemsthat need addressing, my Dads words come back to me and I justcant sit back and wait or someone else to deal with it.

Barry was born in Riverdale, Georgia, the youngest o threechildren, in a rural middle class neighborhood to parents that both

worked hard to make ends meet. Barry was not the star athlete, butgreatly enjoyed playing baseball and ootball, as well as hunting andshing with amily or riends.

It is widely known that he served in the U.S. Air Force, but whatis less known is that Loudermilk was in military intelligence, heldsome o the highest security clearances in the land and essentiallyhelped coordinate doing to the Soviet Union and China what our

own government is apparently doing to us these days.

I guess it gives me a unique perspective on the NSA scandal,Barry says. I know what our intelligence services are capable odoing and I am really bothered by the act that we are turningthose capabilities on our own citizens. Its a level o intrusivenessthats going to become even more shocking as the details continueto come out.

In 1995, Barry started a small data networking and inormationsystems technology company based in Cartersville. He is also co-ounder o Freedom Flight Center, an aviation ight trainingbusiness located in Rome, Georgia.

His real passion, though, is writing and speaking on the oundingprinciples, people, and structure o America, through his non-prot,Firm Reliance.

My campaign team tells me I talk too much about theConstitution and the ounding athers, but these principles are soclosely involved in the core o my political belies that I just cantseparate them, laughs Loudermilk. Some o us sort o had to agreeto disagree on this topic.

In the State House and Senate, Loudermilk has been a stalwart

or standing or the Constitutional role and limits o government. He co-ounded a group called the 216 Group, later the GeorgiaRepublican Study Committee, where a group o legislators meet, read, and discuss each bill. During his time in the General Assembly,Barry has been ocused on lessening government intrusion in ourlives, championing personal privacy, pro-amily and pro- businessinitiatives, and reducing the tax burden and regulation on citizens. He worked hard to pass legislation such as OR reorm, andintroduced the axpayer Protection Act, this year, which would capgovernment spending in Georgia.

Barry is passionate about his legislation and talking about theounding documents o our nation, but he really lights up whentalking about his kids.

I dont know i its me inuencing them or them inspiringme, but the whole amily has made it their mission to help get

    Look closely where there is

runo on the banks or black

sand. Test it with a magnet

to conrm that it is indeed
