The RoleReporting to the Crew Chief, the Carpenter will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the stage department practiceare supported to the highest possible standards. The Carpenter will take responsibility for all aspects of scenic building forproductions and projects, fit-ups, rehearsals, performances, and change-overs. To supervise technicians and supportStage Supervisors, initiating, planning and taking responsibility for builds and changeovers.

£41,939.00 (pro rata per annum)

role

Reports to Head of Stage / Crew ChiefResponsible for Stage Crew

Purpose To take responsibility for all aspects of scenic building for productions and projects, fit-ups, rehearsals, performances, and change-overs. To supervise technicians and support the Crew Chief, initiating, planning and taking responsibility for builds and changeovers.

Key Accountabilities

• To lead all aspects of scenic building effectively and safely during fit-ups, rehearsals, performances, get-outs and maintenance periods.

• To participate in the planning of construction requirements from the initial white card model to fit-up and stage rehearsals, asallocated by the Production Managers and Crew Chief. Liaise with Production Managers and Head of Flys to specify flying and rigging equipment / accessories for productions.

• To liaise with Crew Chief/ Production Managers as necessary to ensure production-related information is compiled, acted upon and distributed to the appropriate personnel.

• To liaise with production workshops, drawing office and external contractors when required and participate in discussions about the most appropriate way to build scenery.

• Assist with the building of production-related scenery in rehearsal rooms, workshops, storage areas and other ENO spaces and venues as required.

• In conjunction with the Production Manager to ensure the correct provision of tools / fixings / standard stage equipment for anybuild.

• To inform the Head of Stage if stocks of stage equipment / fixings need replenishing. • Attend and contribute to department, production and other meetings as required, passing on information and communicating

with others as appropriate.

Knowledge and Skills Required

Essential

• Previous professional, large-scale theatre experience at a senior level in a stage capacity and an excellent understanding of stagecraft and theatre practice.

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of current scenic construction practise and scenic equipment.• Excellent knowledge and practical experience of safe working practices within a theatrical environment; a practical working

knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including LOLER and PUWER with the ability to carry out effective risk assessments, method statements

• The ability to read and interpret ground and stage plans using CAD and other software.• The ability to work at height, use stage-related access equipment and PPE.• The ability to work as part of a team and independently, under minimum supervision.• A proactive, flexible, collaborative and conscientious approach to work with an open mind to new or different ways of working.• Good punctuality and the ability to set an example to others, exhibiting a professional attitude at all times.• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure.• The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with colleagues and staff at all levels.• Supervisory and team leadership skills.

Desirable

• Industry-recognised certificates in rigging, stagecraft and Health & Safety.• The ability to use working at height equipment such as harnesses and work positioning equipment.• Excellent IT skills. • Touring Experience.
