Head Start is designed to provide comprehensive developmental services to income eligible preschool children and their families. Specific services for children focus on education, social/emotional development, physical health, mental health and nutrition. Parent Involvement. is a key Head Start component. Not only are families always welcome as volunteers, they are also partners with staff in shared decision-making regarding Head Start’s fiscal manage-ment, policies and procedures, classroom and program planning and parent educational opportunities.
Support is offered in the following areas:
Individualized Services
Health and Dental Screenings
Family Support Parent Involvement Services to meet the
needs of children with Special Needs and Disabilities
Nutrition
Parents may apply for enrollment into Head
Start for half-day sessions or full day sessions.
Transportation is available at select sites.
Geminus Head Start serves over 1,300 children three to five years old (and their families) in Northwest Indiana. Geminus Head Start sites are located in both Lake and Porter Counties.

Geminus Head Start is a federally funded program that promotes the economic, social well-being, and school readiness of preschoolers ages 3 to 5 years old
Head Start assists families in setting and reaching individual goals that promote success in any aspect of life. These goals may include returning to school, transitioning from welfare to work or accomplishing a successful transition of children to kindergarten.
Head Start collaborates with local community
agencies and service providers to ensure that our program provides the best resources and referrals for our enrolled children and families.
