The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) has been offering intensive ESL and ESP at UAlbany for 40 years. Business Development and Leadership Studies Students learn business and leadership concepts, analyze different leadership styles, and discuss how business decisions affect individuals, organizations, and the world. Health Sciences and Medical English Students gain exposure to the diversity and complexity of today's public health concerns, which require practitioners to understand political, ethical, economic, and scientific concepts. Police English and Emergency Preparedness Students learn English for police work, including real-life scenario exercises on hostage-taking, modern piracy, major environmental accidents, and public health crises. Language, Culture, and Leadership Students learn language and culture through experiences both inside and outside the classroom while increasing their awareness of their abilities as leaders. Airline Hospitality Students learn the language of the hospitality industry and discuss the trends and challenges facing the industry in a global marketplace. Tourism, including Business, Sports, and Eco-Tourism Students learn about the business of tourism or sports or eco-tourism through a combination of classroom experiences and field trips, including one NY seasonal professional sports event. American Film, American Art, and American History (all three or just one focus) Students are exposed to different styles of film and art and different periods of American history and learn the vocabulary and concepts to discuss them critically. Study English in New York State – The Ideal Location New York is world-famous for culture, the arts, media, business, history, entertainment, fashion, international diplomacy, theater and world-class universities. New York is also the ideal location for Olympic skiing, beaches, lakes, mountains and rivers. Many landmarks are well-known and New York hosts several of the world’s 10 most-visited attractions: Niagara Falls, Central Park, Times Square and Grand Central Station. Visiting the Statue of Liberty and Wall Street are other must-do experiences.

Housing* Students have two housing options on the UAlbany campus. On-campus dormitories or on-campus apartments. On-campus dormitories require a meal plan. On-campus apartments feature full kitchens. All housing includes the following amenities: fitness center, wireless Internet and laundry services. The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) The IELP at UAlbany has been offering specially designed intensive English instruction since 1978 to international students from over 112 countries. Faculty and staff are committed to helping students meet their English language goals, experience American culture and campus life, and prepare for academic study. ESL classes are offered in 8- and 4-week sessions. Core classes of Listening/Speaking and Reading/Writing are offered at all seven levels. Full-time (F-1 Visa) students take two core classes and one elective class for a minimum of 20 hours per week. Students must successfully pass the core classes and elective class to progress to the next level.
