Cars´n audio part 1

Cars´n Audio is a project that I have been working on for the past four years. In Sweden there have not been a single caraudio magazine available during the last eight years. Importing magazines on other languages was the solution, but I wanted to read about my local competitions and cars also. The first idea was to publish a magazine in Sweden, but i wanted the best of both worlds so I turn my head towards my big international network in EMMA and dBDragRacing.

The vision was to collect articles from all over the world and put them together in a unique magazine. Cars´n Audio was born, and after month of work we are finally getting started. This first magazine is created together with our friends in Germany, Finland, Italy and South Africa. And many more countries are asking about how they can be a part of our organisation. We are publishing a free multilingual online magazine for all you readers, no mater where you are.

the summer is almost hereEaster means 4 days of caraudio competition in Jonkoping - Sweden. Friday night was terrible after I got a little touch of food poisoning. On Saturday I slowly walked back up towards the exhibition area and it struck me that this was no ordinary Saturday. On this small local road I was passed by hundreds of cars, some of them more then once and in common for all these cars was that I could here music playing from almost every single one of them. It just struck me how important music is while driving. Car manufacturers spend a ton of cash on development and integration of “sound systems” in new cars, but they newer reach even close in sound quality what a €1000 aftermarket system are able to preform. We who work with caraudio and knows the potential don’t hesitate to cut some interior parts in pieces, all in our brand new car, just to try out some ideas and tho reach the per-fect install. But how to convince Mr Johansson that with small efforts he will have amazing sound in his car, compered to the day before? We will try our best to spread the word of car audio and support our local specialists and distributors. To show the extraordinary competence and knowledge found on a car audio competition. Our close connection to both EMMA (European Mobile Media Association) and dBDRA ( dBDragRacing Association) will give you the best of the two worlds.

It is all about music!

Projekt - touranCars´n Audio has bought a VW Touran that we are going to transform to a mobile test-bench. The rebuild of the car has started and all modi-fication will be published online in small build-guides. Door panels, Dash, A-pillars and the trunk are all going to be medicated so we easy can change products for tests, No more studio test, we preform them “in-car”

The first tests starts during week 16 when we put seven 4-channel amplifiers on trial.We will also be the first magazine to put the new Amega/Transmission Audio Quadra ribbon on test.

Custom motor show are for many people the start of the new season. All of the car builders from all over Scandinavia are pushing hard dur-ing the winter to have the cars ready at the East-er show in Sweden.80.558 visitors during four days visited this Swedish version of SEMA and had the best op-portunity to se cars from different styles. Per-formance cars, styling, tuning and of course car audio. 250 companies and over 800 cars were located in the 34000m2 exhibitionhalls.

mobile mediaSince the early nineties the Easter has been associated with caraudio competitions at the ELMIA show. 2010 was no exception and in ex-hibition hall A Swedish Caraudio association ar-ranged competitions during all four days.A total of 77 competitors competed in all the dif-ferent formats under the rules of EMMA and dB-DragRacing.

World record in dBDragRacingOne of the highlights of the show was Patrik Tunhedens world record in dBDragRacing Super Street 1-2. Patrik beat the old record twice and the new record is 161.5dB, the products were from Audiopipe and Digital Designs. We say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Patrik for a great score and god luck in the chase for new records.

TrendsDuring our walk around the exhibition we no-ticed the racing trend of a lot of exhibitors. Gone

are the undrivable “plastic rockets” with ques-tionable design and now we see hard-core race cars with engines shining like stars and produc-ing 7-800 horsepower. Looking at the caraudio trends in one corner you find lo priced, good sounding installs, and in the other corner cars with subwoofers instead of backseat and a am-plifiers and batteries instead of a trunk.

world Class CustoM CarsSome of the best cars in the world was pre-sented in the VIP-Booth. The Impression, Hemisfear, The French Connection and The Egyptian that are well known in the custom car industry. The details on there cars are just outstanding, EMMAs installjudge Patrik Johannesson just gave up after studying The Impression by Chip Foose Design.His comment was: ”I give up... This car are flawless”

BLIB is one of the oldest caraudio specialists in Sweden. In there booth you could find three Honda CRX with products from JL Audio and Kenwood. All three cars ha equipment from the lower price segment and showed the visitors the importance of a good install.

We will be back with to visit Michael and Kim at the shop and to report from one of there Wednesday evening competitions.

on top: Andreas Berntssons car is a masterpiece in efficiency. 178.8 dB with ”only” 11000W is just crazy.In total there are now eight SPL Dynamics D7 amplifiers in the cars, this gives Andreas about 80000W to play with.Technical problems during the weekend didn’t reveal the full potential of the car, but we have been promised a demonstra-tion later this summer.Keep your eyes open for a full report on the car.

sound QualitySQ is the fundamental base in EMMAs organisation, Sweden has long lasting tradition in this competition format and some of our best cars was on display at the ELMIA show.

in the exhibition booth of Ljudia we found Erik Jarls Nissan S13 Wide-body. In total he has used part from seven dif-ferent car models when be build his ”MANIAC”.

The car is a real Multi-media bomb and all his products are from Ljudia.

In a ”secret” booth on prime location Lukas Koos did come-back with his new creation Zpirit. It was not a suprice that the reward was the Peoples Choice trophy. We never got a chace to study the car but hopefully Lukas brings the cars to its right element - The EMMA Racing competition track - dur-ing the summer.

reine gustavsson from Team Ljudstudion has designed his BMW M3 completely af-ter the EMMA Racing rules. After his 2:nd place at Swedish Finals 2009 the car has been upgraded to the next level, The install and SQ was spot on target already -09, but it was not loud enough, now that part is tuned right and i don’t loose important points in the SPL-lane, Reine explains. The system from Focal, Mutant and Pioneer will really be a challenge for his rivals. The install of the front system was something that visitors could not understand the con-cept behind. Reine answers that its new concept that minimize reflexes and makes a perfect smooth sound. Does it Work?? We will find out this summer.

Cars´n Audio went down to AMICOM to have a look at the international EMMA kick off.Almost 100 cars was preregistered and we looked forward to listen and explore the elite of European car audio competitions.

AMICOM is the new big exhibition in Europe for car manufacturers, mobile media and accessories. Almost all caraudio manufacturers were present and together with 20 car manufactur-ers the show had a lot to offer.

who would have expected one year ago that the EMMA 2010 Season Kick Off should attract 90000 visitors just over the first 2 days? The desire for some upwind for the Sound Off Scene was also a driving force, to choose the Saxon Me-tropolis Leipzig with its famous Car Exhibitions AMI/AMITEC and their brand new mobile media exhibi-tion format AMICOM for a new venue of the EMMA Kick Off.

And what a premier!! 57 car audio exhibitioners , thrilling stage show, a round-the-clock-live instal-lation, professional workshops, a highly motivated judge team, buzzing VIP celebrities and a great Saturday Night Party the international EMMA com-petitors started in Leipzig into a powerful, promising 2010 season.

About 80 participants and their vehicles from 13 European EMMA nations travelled with their visually and acoustically impressive mobile media installa-tions to Leipzig in order to receive their system check based on the EMMA rulebook. This array of sound, show & shine on four wheels was also an impres-sive highlight to the AMI/AMITEC/AMCIOM visitors so their presentation at competition area became a highly frequented hot spot during the weekend.

While the EMMA competitors launched their season under the ears and eyes of the EMMA judge team, the exhibition audience enjoyed the effort to experi-ence how real enthusiasts marvel their sound sys-tems and celebrate the capacity of their installations. Cars´, Audio got the opportunity to listen to over 20 cars together with EMMA:s headjudge Reinier Wolf.The quality of the cars is unbelievable high, and don’t miss out on the opportunity to listen to these cars when there’s a competition nearby.

In the end when the two crazy car dealers Jörg and Dragan started their show program at the award giv-ing ceremony on Sunday, they truly shook the hall and did a great job to celebrate a crisp season open-er together with competitors, the EMMA team and thousands of excited visitors.

Clarion Beetle This New Beetle showed off the new products from Clarion. The new DVD VZ709E together with speak-ers from the Ultra series, APX amplifiers and two SW3012 subwoofers gave os a nice demonstration and invited audience to the booth.

fans were not to be disappointed on the show in the Audi booth. The pressure around the brand new RS5 and the second version of the E-tron were massive. The both cars are equipped with a hi-grade Bang & Oluf-sen system, we will try to get a “testdrive” of this state of the art caraudio sys-tem and challenge it with the EMMA SQ disc. Can it challenge a regular EMMA Experienced system? On display they also had Timo Scheiders 2010 DTM A4, the car that he will use to defend his championship and secure his third in a row. But can he beat Mattias Ekström in his RedBull A4? The A1 was presented in as many as 8 different models. To the left you can se the ”Competition Kit Legends” version.
