BACKGROUND Energy needs for daily activities is very high, both urban communities and communities in rural areas. For urban communities to get energy such as electricity or fuel is not a difficult thing to get it, but due to ease urban communities get electricity and fuel lead society into consumptive nature especially against the use of fuel derived from fossil energy sources such as gasoline. But in contrast to rural communities, they have not have easy access to electricity or fuel so they should take advantage of first all they can use as an alternative energy source of fuel, but they also have high energy needs. If the nature of consumer society is left without any action taken then it can lead to enormous energy consumption amount and use of uncontrolled, if it is allowed then the amount of inventory reserves of energy will decrease. Especially energy derived from fossil due to energy derived from fossil fuels can not be updated so that it is not impossible if we continue to use fuel derived from fossil energy sources this number will continue to decrease and then discharged. Therefore, the energy demand of very high numbers should start redirected to alternative energy sources, in addition to the source is easy to obtain alternative energy sources can be updated so that we do not have to worry about lack of energy. Alternative energy sources can be called environmentally friendly energy source because it starts from the source only from nature and after use do not produce pollution or hazardous waste. One of the alternative energy sources that can be found in rural areas, namely biogas, because usually in rural areas are still many farms. So that the dirt from cattle and organic waste from the farm can be utilized as biogas. Biogas is a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide that can be burned as well as liquefied petroleum gas, so that biogas can be used as fuel. Examples of current utilization of biogas is used as fuel for household scale gas stove, before being used as fuel gas stove biogas is purified and packed into a pressurized tube using a compressor. Biogas can also be used as a fuel source to generate electricity which is then electricity can be used for various purposes such as lighting, water distribution, even to operate the machine. As it is known that biogas is one energy source that has the potential to replace fossil fuels and most important of biogas is a renewable source, the biogas can be used as an alternative fuel, and in this case the biogas is used as fuel for the generator replaces function of gasoline. By making modifications to the carburetor, the generator can use two types of fuel, namely gasoline and biogas. Before being used to fuel generators, biogas digester out of the first accommodated into a plastic bag. And to determine the potential of biogas as an alternative fuel, will be testing the performance and exhaust emissions from generators that use biogas as an alternative fuel to replace fossil fuels. GOALThe purpose of this final project are:1.count and compare the fuel consumption of the generator when using biogas fuel and gasoline.2. Find out the performance (duration of action, energy consumption and efficiency) of the generator OH 5000 HE 2500 watts when using biogas fuel and gasoline.3. Find out the exhaust emissions from the generator when using biogas fuel and gasoline.

SCOPE OF PROBLEMThe scope of problem from this final project is:1. The test was conducted on gasoline generator that has been modified to be able to use biogas.2. Biogas used a purified biogas.3. Gasoline used is gasoline production Pertamina.4. Losses in genset ignored.5. loading of generators using light.

Problem formulation Availability of biogas energy sources in Indonesia, especially in rural areas can be used as fuel generator that is used to meet the needs of rural electrification. Issues to be discussed is the fuel consumption of the generator that has been modified in order to use biogas. The test on these genset is made by compare the use of fuel (fuel consumption and performance). And to know savings that can be obtained from the use of biogas compared to gasoline.
