III. Possessive, Reflexive, and Intensive Pronouns

Pronoun Review.

Definition: A pronoun takes the place of a noun. The noun for which the pronoun substitutes is called the antecedent. Practice: Circle the pronouns in the following sentences.

1. Melany enjoys drag racing her 67’ Chevy to Walmart.

2. Reanas is adventurous. He drives his Honda Accord to the moon every Tuesday.

3. Iggy and Ariana have 99 problems, but you aren’t one.

Possessive Pronouns. Definition: A possessive pronoun shows possession. Example: my, your, their, our Practice: Read each sentence below. Write the appropriate possessive pronoun in the blank.

4. Ending _________soccer career, Edison broke his shin while juking Ms. Fittz.

5. Zlatan and the rest of the PSG players wear lucky SpongeBob shirts under _________ jerseys every game.

6. Enrique Iglesias’ sister, Lea, takes ______ dog, Jarryd, on a walk to Baja Burrito every night.

Reflexive Pronouns. Definition: A reflexive pronoun points the action of the verb back at the subject.

Example: I made myself a nice breakfast this morning. (Think Spanish: me ducho cada mañana.) Practice: Write the reflexive pronoun from the word bank that best completes each sentence below.

Intensive Pronouns. Definition: An intensive pronoun uses reflexive pronouns to add emphasis to the subject of the sentence. Examples of Reflexive Pronouns include; Myself, Yourself, Himself, Herself Practice: Circle the intensive pronoun in each sentence. 10. He himself completed all of his homework. 11. Help me! I can’t do it myself. 12. Did you discover that yourself?

V. Points to Ponder: “Anthem” Chapter 5 1. Equality understands that his invention will benefit mankind greatly, but this was not his primary motivation in conducting his experiments – and it is not the primary source of the great joy he experiences. Why is this? What is the motivation?
