PROCEDURES ARE A PART OF LIFE. THEY ALLOW COMPLEX OPERATIONS TO RUN SMOOTHLY WITH MINIMAL

CONFUSION, LOW STRESS, AND LESS WASTED TIME.

The atmosphere in this classroom will be formal and academic, but comfortable.

Students will work hard, learn English, and enjoy the process.

If a visitor walked into our classroom during the day, what should they see?

1. Enter the room quickly and quietly.2. Pick up any handouts on the front table.3. Get materials and be seated.4. Read the journaling assignment posted on the board

and start working.5. If you finish the journal early, work on something

else quietly. Don’t talk to your neighbors!6. Quietly, patiently wait for instruction.

1. Pick up handouts, be seated, and gather materials for class.2. Read the journaling assignment on the board and start working.3. Do not wait for the teacher or the bell.4. If you are ON TIME to class and writing in your journal, I will

initial the entry. Each initialed entry is worth 5 pts.; entries without initials are worth 3, so you can make up assigned journals, but I only give full points when it’s done on time. School excused absences will be marked full points also.

5. If you fi nish the journal early, fi nd something quiet to work on while others are fi nishing.

Enter the classroom quietly, pick up the daily handouts, and join in the classroom activities with minimal disruption.

If your tardies continue, there will be consequences. (i.e.: talk with me, parent contact, administration involvement)

If you are tardy more than 20 minutes late to class (unexcused), it will be counted as an unexcused absence.

When you are absent, check the blog fi rst to find out what you missed. Do not ask the teacher.

If you are missing work from the absence, check the box on the front table or the class blog.

When we are having class discussions, raise your hand to be called on and actively listen to whoever is speaking.

Teacher will give specifi c instructions when students are to call out answers without fi rst raising their hands.

Ask only questions that are relevant to the lesson. Be respectful of all comments and ideas, even if they diff er

from yours.

The teacher will say, “Listen up” or “I need your attention” and I will hold up my hand.

When you see my hand you are to: Stop what you are doing. Look at the teacher. Sit quietly.

When we are walking in the hall (fi re drills, computer lab, library): Stay with the group. Go quickly and quietly to the destination.

WALKING IN THE HALL PROCEDURE

1. Hand in daily work.2. Put away materials. Make sure table area is neat

and trash is picked up.3. When the bell rings, be seated and look at the

teacher (All students must be seated).4. Teacher dismisses the class NOT the bell.5. Push in chairs and proceed quickly and quietly out

the door.

Get permission from the teacher without disrupting class. You must give me a hall pass to get my hall pass to leave

the room. Make sense? Teacher will not let you use the hall pass to go to your car. Only one person at a time will use the hall pass. This

includes using the bathroom.

STUDENTS LEAVING THE CLASSROOM

The best time for bathroom use is between each class period. There is one right down the hall.

You should not leave class to use the bathroom unless it is truly necessary.

You must get permission from the teacher without disrupting the class.

Only one person at a time will use the bathroom.
