In this talk Dr Barry Fudgewill present the physiologicalrationale for altitude training andthe performance implications thismay have for the Marathon, including some scientific data fromelite athletes.

Dr Barry Fudge completed hisundergraduate degree and his PhDin Physiology from the University ofGlasgow. His PhD focussed on theenvironmental factors leading tothe success of elite east Africanrunners. During that time heworked with a number of runnersin Kenya and Ethiopia, some ofwhom are World record holdersand/or World and Olympicmedallists. Barry currently works asa Senior Physiologist at the EnglishInstitute of Sport providing supportto UK Athletics.
