GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

England comprises the central and southern part of the UK island. It is the

only a 34 kilometer (21 miles) sea gap. England is surrounded by the Irish

Sea, North Sea, and Atlantic Ocean.

The climate corresponds to a temperate maritime climate, which means

that temperatures don’t go much lower than 0 °C (32 °F) in winter nor

much higher than 32 °C (90 °F) in summer. Regarding the rain, England has

a significant proportion of rainfall during the whole year.

Interesting Facts

• Tea is not originally from England. It originated in East and South Asia (India,

China, and Tibet)

• Contrary to many beliefs, 5 o’clock tea does not exist in England. People do

drink tea, but not at any particular time nor with any particular ceremony. The

only difference with other countries is that it is very common to pour milk in their

cup of tea

• England is not the same as United Kingdom. Although England is the largest

country in the UK, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are also part of it
