In the world, there is something that attacks people. It isn't seeable, but you

can see it mentally. It strikes people every year, every day and even every

minute. One of the greatest damage that is does, is it stops freedom. It takes it

away from you, confiscates it. Once it attacks you, you stand back and do

nothing about it. You let yourself die. You let yourself get attacked up.

Depression. Depression happens to everyone when something bad happens or

even when nothing happens. It is when someone is desperate of something

and they stay sad about it. The poem uses onomatopoeias such as: I will suck

the energy and motivation out of you I will affect every single one of your

lives. I used them to tell the reader how depression acted. The message was

well given at the end: I used a very effective way to show what the poem was

about. In the beginning, the reader thinks it is about violence. But in the end,

they see that it is about depression: not really hurting or killing.

DEPRESSION

This is another haiku that I got from the wild animals. I got it from a small brown bird that I saw. It started looking right and left like it wanted food or something it went flying away to the sky quickly like it was stressed because it was late for work or anything else. I think that the reason why I thought that it was confused was that birds don’t have to go to a specific place like humans do. Birds can go anywhere they want as they contain freedom between themselves. This poem is not the strongest haiku but it means a lot about freedom to a bird as it is confused about where they should be going to. I am trying to say that freedom isn’t going to make you the happiest person as when you have freedom

The bird looks confused much

Not knowing where to go to.

It flies away to the sky

In this poem, I am talking about the 12th year in my life. I have been talking about how it was and what happened during those plus if I am free or not. I talked about Vietnam, Basketball and all the things I did in the 12th year of my life that I liked and that I disliked. I am saying that I am not free because I am not a teenager yet. I still have a lot of rules that my parents give me. I always have to do what they say and I cannot go out often. I did not use any literary devices because in this style of a poem, I don’t. It is a poem describing my life not in a paragraph form but in a poem. I have delivered this message in the middle of the poem when I said I wasn’t free.

The 12th Year

The 12th year Normal, plain normal

Nothing special happening Regular life in Vietnam

Bored at home all the time Going to school every day having fun with friends

It’s been like this for About 4 years now.

New countries For holidays

Playing basketball Got into the team

What I hate always the same The Vietnamese food

Bun cha, pho ga Also waking up early in the morning

The alarm annoying me The chickens waking me up

Got some new friends New teachers, homeroom etc.

Started to watch Scary movies with my friends

Learning new things about myself More allowance

I am not free Not a teenager yet but I will be

And that is how it ends I am stuck as the same person for another year.

I have made this poem because of an inspiration from something that really happens. It is not really an inspiration, but the whole poem is actually true. I and my class went outside to create some haikus. I wrote a few in the beginning, until a spider randomly appeared on my hand. I stopped writing and it started walking around my hand all over the place. That gave me the thought that it contained freedom within itself but then, it stopped just like the world stopped and it flew away for no reasons. I know that spiders don’t fly. This one did, like a bird. It did not have wings; it was like if it lost gravity. I think that the scientific reason was because of its web. It was able to shoot it somewhere, and when the web reached something, it stopped and let itself go. The spider made me write the haiku. It represented freedom, as it could do anything it desired to do. I haven’t used any literary devices in this poem, but I think it represents freedom a lot. This poem is important to me as it was the first time that I saw a spider fly. It even looked like special effects! The message was effectively sent to the reader because humans can’t just fly away. We need special gadgets and it is not free, but this spider can.

The spider

The poem is about a sugary white brownie. This brownie represents my favorite food. The favorite food I ever tasted but it depends on how the brownie is made and if it is not all in pieces: if it is in the form of a black square. I think that this represents freedom because I feel that a brownie is free. I think that it is free from the world because it doesn’t do anything; it just stands there strong, waiting for someone to eat it. I have used a lot of metaphors and similes. It helps to describe what it looks like the most.

Brownie,

A dirt block with snow

Sugar on top

Made of brown chocolate,

Black as the night

And salt: the secret ingredient

Makes everyone hungry.

Crusty skin surrounding it

Soft chocolate inside, all crumbled

The sugary flakes on it.

Makes me lick my lips with my tongue

The best food in the world.

So great, that you can't put anything with it.

So easy to break off

Crumbles by crumbles

That is how you eat it slowly

For you to taste it for longer

A brownie is a perfect desert

After a long sour and salty meal

The brownie beats it

Makes your mouth feel good

A brownie is like the apple to your pie

A block of molten lava nicely cut

When looking at it, strong and gorgeous

Free from anything, it does nothing

Its desire is to be eaten

Without it, the world would be nothing
