Smart ZAE Project: Helping a business area to improve its Energy Management
• The first Smart Grid project deployed on the scale of an economical activity zone (ZAE), Smart ZAE is a pilot site located on 1.5 hectare where 230 people work, in the city of Toulouse. The site is equipped with 300 kWp photovoltaic capacity and 60 kW of wind energy, the two providing up to 50% of the electricity consumption of the site. This project boasts three major technological innovations :– Power Storage facilities with 100 kW Levisys’s flywheels and 100 kW.h battery storage– Direct current links between generating units and storage facilities to avoid energy losses– High yield energy converters
• Smart ZAE aims to demonstrate that the energy performance of an industrial estate can be improved and electricity consumption optimized, using renewable energy coupled with storage capacity and a smart energy management system.
• In addition, the industrial estate can provide ancillary services to the grid.• Smart ZAE is coordinated by SCLE SFE, a unit of Cofely Ineo (ENGIE Group) with a
consortium composed of Laboratories Laplace, LEVISYS and CIRTEM. Smart ZAE is supported by the Investments for the Future program managed by ADEME

Flywheel Technology
• A flywheel is based on the principle of converting and storing electrical energy as kinetic energy. When excess energy from the grid is absorbed, the rotor is spun up and then spun down to reconvert kinetic energy back into electrical energy and then re-supplied to the grid.
• Different solutions exist today based mainly on Steel , carbon fiber or even concrete rotor. Those solutions tend to answer to the market demand and can be mobile or stationary
• The challenge is to define the proper set up between weight (power density), speed and dimension.
• Levysis have adopted the carbon fiber technology with a reasonable mass of 350 kg and a spinning speed of 12.000/14.000 rpm

LEVISYS Key Innovations
Levisys technology relies on key innovative solution
• A passive magnetic sustentation • Hight performance electric motor • A lean design to reduce mechanical parts • A multi level drive and power electronics jointly
designed with our suppliers• A patented design for a carbon fiber rotor made
with Airbus Industries
All those key innovations give to Levisys FW the best performance on the market with 98% efficiency. Lean design contribute to the availability (MTBF, MTTR)Expected life time is above 20 years thanks to limited peripheral equipments (no cooling system and passive sustentation
