KOC CEO Jamal AbdulAziz Jaafar deliv- ered a speech in which he stressed the keenness of the Company to fulfill its so- cial responsibilities. He pointed out that the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition is a scientific and educational edifice that reflects the development of Kuwait and highlights its leading role in the global oil industry. Jaafar went on to explain that the exhibi- tion’s name was selected in recognition of the late Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who played a fundamental role in building Kuwait’s oil industry, noting that it was during his reign that oil was discovered in Kuwait. After the CEO’s speech, Minister Al-Saleh went on a tour through the Exhibition’s multiple halls, starting at the Entrance Experience, and continuing on to the Origins of Oil section, the Discovery Hall, and the Viewing Gallery. He made sure to visit the Centrum, which tells the story of the KOC Fire Team, one of the best in the world, and honors the role they played during their fight against the oil well fires during the invasion of Kuwait. The Exhibition comes as an extension to the Company’s display center founded in 1956, and is built on a total area of 60,000 square meters. It includes the most advanced and sophisticated fea- tures, as well as digital displays that pres- ent oil culture in a thrilling and entertain- ing way to suit all ages. More photos p8.

KOC CEO visits the Recruitment CenterExcellent employee performance amid surge in number of applicants

KOC CEO Jamal AbdulAziz Jaafar made an inspection visit to the Recruitment Center to assess the progress of work and procedures.

Jaafar was accompanied during the visit by DCEO (West Kuwait) Ismail Abdulla, and Manager Training & Career Development Qusai Al-Amer.

TL Manpower & Redeployment Adnan Al-Sabti presented an explanation about the Center’s continuous efforts and development mechanisms.

The CEO met with the staff to praise their good performance and discipline at work, especially with regard to the recent announcement. He commended their ability to control the tests despite the vast number of applicants, which reached to about 1,500 requests.

Jaafar met later with Ismail Abdulla and Qusai Al-Amer, as well as with Manager Public Relations & Information Mohammad Al-Basry. He thanked them for their efforts and congratulated their success in handling the latest job applications.

The second Awareness Campaign to fight Breast Cancer was organized under KOC sponsorship by Ahmadi Governorate and Cancer Aware Nation (CAN), with the presence of Governor Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.

The event began with a march in the streets of Ahmadi Governorate by students of schools and participating entities, followed by the opening of an exhibition.

Sheikh Fawaz delivered a speech in which he explained that the Campaign was part of the long-term development project known as “My Governorate is More Beautiful,” launched by the Governorate early last year. The project includes several developmental pathways related to all areas, including health and awareness.

The Governor urged all women to keep up with periodic medical examinations, which play a crucial role in identifying the disease early enough to begin effective treatment.

He stressed that volunteer work was and still is a social development pillar to be reckoned with, especially since Kuwait has many volunteers from both public and private institutions. He noted that volunteer work is performed under the backing of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, along with official and popular support, in order to propagate its role in the development of society.

The WK Directorate held a meeting to review its 2nd quarter performance of the 2016/2017 fiscal year. DCEO WK Ismail Abdulla kicked off the meeting by welcoming the attendees, which included Group Managers, Team Leaders and their deputies, representatives of the Financial Reporting Team and Performance Management Team, as well as a number of the Directorate employees.

Acting HSE TL (WK) Zainab Hussein presented a video highlighting the importance of protecting the environment in terms of automobile gas consumption. Afterwards, the Financial Reporting Team shared an overview of KOC and WK Directorate’s financial performance report for the second quarter of the current fiscal year, where they answered inquiries from attendees.

The Planning Team members reviewed the performance report of WK Directorate, in addition to a number of its projects and means of enhancing its performance, while the most prominent achievements of the group during the second quarter of the current fiscal year were applauded.

To conclude the event, the DCEO commended the efforts of the Directorate’s employees, and affirmed the importance of maintaining high standards in order to reach the goals set by KOC and the Directorate.

Under the patronage of DCEO (NK) Badriah Abdul Rahim, the Legal Advice Team recently organized a lecture for circular-appointed employees under the theme of: “Working Women’s Rights.”

TL Ahmad Al-Azmi described a number of issues during the lecture which aimed at enlightening female employees of their rights and benefits which are numerous and in accordance with KOC’s regulations.

Furthermore, Al-Azmi asserted the role of women in Kuwaiti legislation, especially considering the fact that they represent half of the society. Thus, they have a great deal of legislation that is dedicated to protecting their rights. These are defined in provisions in the labor law of the private sector, as well as the special needs affairs law and children’s rights law, which include terms that take into account the best interests of female professionals and their children.

Al-Azmi added that women working at KOC have rights and advantages that sometimes exceed what is stipulated by law, such as maternity leave, where the Company awards them half their remuneration for the first two months of the four months of leave to support them and recognize the important role they play in society.

The event was attended by a group of employees from various Groups, with the Projects Support Services Group Manager (S&EK) Amina Rajab and Fields Development Group Manager (SK) Farida Ali in attendance.

D&T Directorate Holds 2nd QPR Meeting of 2016/17New DCEO Al-Eidan chairs the event

“Working Women’s Rights” Lecture Organized by the Legal Advice Team

The D&T Directorate recently held a QPR meeting to review its performance over the second quarter of the 2016/17 fiscal year. The meeting was chaired by the new DCEO Ahmad Al-Eidan, and held in the presence of the Group’s Managers and Team Leaders. The event, which was held at the Jumeirah Hotel in Messila, was organized by the Planning Team (D&T) under the supervision of TL Majid Al-Enezi.

Al-Enezi welcomed new DCEO Al-Eidan, and wished him good luck in leading the Directorate for the sake of KOC and Kuwait in general.

The event began with a speech from Al-Eidan, who acknowledged that he had yet to meet with the Directorate staff, but stressed that he will be holding meetings in the upcoming weeks with different Groups and Teams to discuss all related topics.

He emphasized the need to put more importance on safety, which he considers a high priority in all operations and business fields. He also called attention to the importance of teamwork, and expressed his appreciation and confidence regarding the performance of all staff members.

The HSE Moment was presented by Safety Engineer Jignesh Shah from Deep Drilling Group, who discussed the HSE Activity Tracking System (HATS).

The presentation was followed by the Balanced Scorecard Performance overview and the Balanced Scorecard Review: KPMs and Initiatives.

Chief Chemist Uthaman Kuppusamy of Operations Laboratories Team, headed by Salman Al-Qabandi, was awarded the prestigious Honorary Legacy Award in the “Petroleum Economist” annual awards Black Tie Ceremony held in the Banking Hall in the City of London.

Mr. Uthaman was short-listed with international decision makers from the energy sector. The award aims to identify and reward specialists of long-term service, and to recognize innovation and excellence within the oil industry.

TL Al-Qabandi congratulated Uthaman for this outstanding achievement and for bringing KOC to the prestigious stage alongside other companies in the region, such as Saudi Aramco, BAPCO and OMAN NGL.

Additionally, the main Legacy Winner Award was presented to the reputed Mr. Ali Al Naimi, ex Saudi Oil Minister. Another category was Energy Minister, which was won by Bahrain’s Minister Ali Husain Mirza in the same stage.

Nominations for all categories were judged by a panel of independent experts representing different sectors of the industry.

Chief Chemist at KOC wins an International AwardUthaman Kappusamy recognized for outstanding achievement in his field

KOC recently participated in the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (SPE ATCE) organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Dubai, which was attended by more than 7,000 specialists in the field of oil and gas from all over the world.

The Company was represented by a specialized delegation headed by Manager Public Relations & Information Mohammad Al-Basry, with its members actively participating in the event, being held for the first time in the Middle East.

The opening ceremony included speeches made by Director Exploration Development & Production at ADNOC Abdul Munim Al-Kindy, President & CEO of Aramco Amin Nasser, and 2016 SPE President Chairman Nathan Meehan, while KPC CEO Nizar Al-Adsani spoke at the first Plenary Session.

Among the speakers at the event were Managing Director, Planning & Finance at KPC Wafaa’ Al-Za’abi, Deputy CEO at Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) Hosnia Hashim, and Consultant NK Directorate in KOC Maria Capello.

Members of the KOC delegation participated as moderators for some of the sessions, and prepared presentations on important topics. Several from the large number of engineers, specialists and technicians presented their work, such as TL Gas Fields Development Studies Qasem Dashti, TL HSE (North Kuwait) Ali Al-Failakawi, TL Fields Development I (EK) Salem Al-Sabea, and TL Technical Personnel Development Eissa Al-Daihani.

HSE NK Team organized a 3-day awareness campaign titled “Off-Road Safe Driving” in the presence of DCEO NK Badria Abdulrahim, along with Managers and TLs.

The Campaign started with a presentation to give an overview of significant studies related to safe driving on unpaved roads, followed by a short movie regarding this subject.

After the presentation, attendees moved to an open driving area where live demonstrations of driving on unpaved roads were conducted in the context of practical application.

The Upstream Center of Excellence (CoE) Team invited their technical consulting partners, Oil & Technology Management Consulting (OTM) from the United Kingdom, represented by Dr. Martin Trewhella, to visit KOC and contribute to CoE’s bi-weekly Discipline Meetings. OTM experts have been in regular contact with CoE experts to understand precise areas that require support.

Nadia Al-Zeabot (CoE Focal Point) facilitated these meetings, along with CoE Management team. Al-Zeabot provided her insights on CoE’s future roadmap, implementation of strategies for each discipline, and the vision of adding more disciplines in the future.

The objective of these meetings was for OTM Consultants to provide their expert opinions on the technical challenges faced by discipline experts in their respective areas. They can then put in place more effective practices that have been tested and successfully implemented in Oil & Gas sectors globally.

OTM Consulting and the discipline experts helped identify potential value creation opportunities, which would be beneficial in reducing production time or cost across all disciplines.

As per KOC’s commitment to HSE issues and Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA) Law 42/2014 and ESIA guidelines issued on the 6th of December 2015, Health and Environment (H&E) Team, HSE Group recently conducted 13 awareness sessions on new “Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Procedure” from June to September, 2016.

During the awareness sessions, Senior Environment Engineer Fatema Owayed and Environmental Engineering Specialist Parisudda Rao gave a detailed presentation on some of the major changes that took place, such as Project Screening Application Form, Category of the Project and Environmental Permit, which have been amended in line with KEPA’s new Law (42/2014). Nearly 300 employees from different branches in the Company attended the sessions.

H&E Team Leader Yousef Al-Qallaf encouraged all the teams in Assets/Directorates to utilize the ESIA awareness sessions to gain more in-depth knowledge of ESIA implementations.

Al-Ahmadi Hospital organized its “We Care” campaign, an ongoing campaign that takes place during the first week of every month.

Dr. Intisar Al-Hindal, Health Promotion Unit Manager, said that the hospital aims to measure blood pressure and sugar levels of every visitor or patient who suffers from diabetes or high blood pressure, starting in the early morning and continuing until the afternoon.

She explained that blood pressure and diabetes were prioritized since they are the most prevalent. However, there is an ambitious plan set to increase the range of diseases that the Campaign covers. Expanding the Campaign can help determine the rate of and prevalence of other illnesses over time in order to prepare expansive studies.
