Some relevant Projects

An energy access model has been successfully developed by Esf, in
Yoro-Honduras, in collaboration with other NGOs, the community and
the Municipality, being all fully committed in the economics and
sustainability of the project.
A pilot project was designed and implemented in 23 indigenous
Tolupana ethnic communities (about 500 families) in the Yoro
Department, with very low incomes coming from high-rise coffee, grain
and livestock farm.
Based on the success of that proven model, Esf is now starting a new
project, funded by AECID (Agencia Española de Cooperación
Internacional para el Desarrollo) for additional 1000 families, which
have been suffering several hurricanes and pandemia. This project also
includes an energy planning study in the Yoro Department to be
provided to the Government.
This pilot project aimed to demonstrate the following objectives:
• Multi- actor collaboration
• Use of third generation Domestic Photovoltaic Systems
• Sustainable Economic model
• Sustainable Social model

Domestic Photovoltaic Systems
• Replacement of candles, kerosene lamps, ocote
with cleaner, healthy, safe and more effective energies.
• 3rd generation technology.
• Simpler, modern, self-installing,
• Maintenance-free and at a lower price.
8
Sustainable Economic Model
• Esf or external funds finances 50% of the investment, which is
assumed by beneficiaries in monthly installments tailored to their
income in line to what they spend monthly on lighting and
charging the mobile.
• Creation of a Seed Fund (Corylus Fund) with reinvestment in the
area and community buildings (schools, health centers etc).
• The Municipality assumes the other 50%.

Sustainable Social Model
• Evaluation of the effects of access to energy in terms of well-being
(economic, socio-cultural, health, women's empowerment,
institutional, environmental, etc.) to ensure effectiveness of the
project.
• Esf monitoring of the project in service and support when required
• Replicable anywhere else in the world to help reduce energy
poverty and improve living conditions for isolated and poor
families
