Transcript of Endicott College Cross Country Media Guide Fall 2010
With a healthy combination of
experienced veterans and eager
rookies, 2010 is set to be a success-
ful season for the Endicott College
cross country teams. Both the men
and women return their top runners
from a year ago, which ended with
a pair of fifth place showings at the
TCCC Invitational. The men’s team
hopes to use their experience to
lift them to new heights, while the
women feature strength in numbers
and are poised for a run at the cham-
pionship.
The men’s team showcases a TCCC
First-Team selection in junior co-
captain Greg Payne, who also earned
Runner of the Week accolades dur-
ing his sophomore campaign. Payne
finished eighth individually in a field
of 87 at the TCCC Invitational to
close out the season after a pair of
top-5 finishes earlier in the year.
Fellow co-captain Brendan
Mitchell competed in every meet
as a sophomore and showed
tremendous growth as the season
progressed. His efforts culminated
in a 13th place finish at the Gordon
Invitational. The two co-captains will
bring strength and leadership to this
season’s team. Michael Macisso and
James Perkins are the lone seniors
for the Gulls.
Macisso finished 59th at the WNEC
Invitational, his best showing of the
season. Perkins looks to improve on
a consistent junior season which was
highlighted by a 23rd place finish at
the year’s opening meet.
Junior Tom Rofrano placed 17th at
the same meet, helping Endicott
finish second in team competition.
One week earlier, the sophomore
posted his best time of the season at
the WNEC Invitational.
Alex Dinola ran well as a sopho-
more and is ready to make a splash
during his junior season. Dinola
competed in four meets, highlighted
by a 29th place finish at the Gordon
Invitational where he posted his best
time of the season.
The women’s team offers more
depth with the help of a strong
recruiting class. Six freshmen replace
just two graduating seniors, giving
the Gulls the luxury of 20 runners
on the roster. In 2009, the Blue and
Green finished in the top three as a
team on three occasions, highlighted
by a standout performance at the
Gordon Invitational where they
placed five runners inside the top-10.
Four of those runners return in 2010.
In her first year as a Gull, Kim
Shepherd earned Rookie of the
Week honors twice and finished in
the top-10 four times en route to
TCCC First Team accolades. Class-
mate Holly Davis had three top-10
finishes, including a fifth place
showing at the first meet of the
season.
The strength of the 2009 recruiting
class continues with Monica Gard-
ner, who returns for her sophomore
season after posting a pair of top-15
finishes last year.
Returning seniors include Emily
Calkins and Sarah James. Calkins
competed in five races last year
while James ran six times, high-
lighted by a strong showing at the
WNEC Invitational.
The Gulls also welcome back a
pair of junior co-captains in Brittany

Sharyn LongoThe Endicott men’s and women’s teams begin their fourth season under head coach
Sharyn Longo. Longo has given the program a resurgence the past three years, with the level of competition, team commitment and recruiting eff orts all rising to combine for team success.
In 2009, the men’s team earned The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Runner of the week once, had a conference First Team runner, and fi nished in fi fth place at the TCCC Championship meet. The women’s team had a Rookie of the Week twice, a conference First Team runner, and fi nished in fi fth place at the TCCC Championship race as well. The men’s team had a second place fi nish at the Gordon Invitational on October 24 and the women’s team had top team fi nishes at the Gordon Invitational and the WNEC Invitational. Both teams competed in the ECAC and NCAA Regional meets annually.
Sharyn Longo began her coaching career at Salem High School in 1982 where she successfully coached the boys and girls cross country, winter and spring teams to numerous conference titles dur-ing her 12 years at the helm. A direct result of those coaching eff orts was her induction into the Hall of Fame in 1997.
Longo has been name Coach of the year fi ve times, most recently for the 2007-2008 winter season, where she has coached the Dan-vers High School winter track team to two undefeated seasons, 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and two championship titles since she began in the 2004-2005 season.
Longo has been a Licensed/Practicing Realtor since 1989, currently with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. She is a Certifi ed Buyer Agent and a Senior Real Estate Specialist. Prior to becoming a Realtor, Longo pursued her Baccalaureate at Salem State College for business administration while working a family business and coaching.
Born in Salem, Mass., Longo currently resides in Danvers with her husband of 24 years and their two sons.

Plante and Kelly Cameron. As a sophomore,
Plante ran her best race of the season at
the Gordon Invitational where she fi nished
sixth. Cameron showed steady improvement
as the year progressed, fi nishing ninth at
the Gordon Invitational before ending the
season with a 41st place showing at the TCCC
Championship.
Deanna Slobin also made tremendous
improvements from a year ago and looks
to carry that momentum into her junior
campaign.
Combined with this season’s strong fresh-
man class, the women’s team has their
sights set on the conference crown. The
season begins on September 8, when the
Gulls host their fi rst ever home meet on the
Endicott campus.
