Brown Bear

“I’m the pretty brown bear. My favourite foods are wild fruits, honey and mushrooms. I live on the
mountains in Rodopi and Pindos. I can stay on my rear legs and climb on trees. I weigh 200 kilos
and I’m about 2,5 meters long/tall. I give birth to one or two babies per year. They weight only
300 gr and stay with me for the first two years. If something happens to me they can rarely make
it. I am an endangered animal because of illegal hunting and the destruction of my natural habitat.
In Greece, there are only 150 of us.”

“I am Monachous monachous. I live in the Mediterranean
sea. My colour is grey or brown. I live for about forty five
years. I am 3 meters long and I weight 300 kilos. I eat
octopuses, fish, lobsters and squids. I have got one baby
(pup) per year. There are only 250 Monachous monachous
seals in Greece today due to sea pollution and overfishing.”

the earth since the time of the dinosaurs. I weight 100 kilos
and I can be up to 1,20 m long. My Colour is orange and

120 eggs and I bury them in the sand. I eat shells and

The wolf lives on the mountains in Pindos and Rodopi. Its color
is brown. It can be up to1,5 meters long and weight 20 to 40
kilo. It eats pigs, sheep and loves eating grapes. It has 3‐7
babies per year. It’s under threat because of lack of food and
the destruction of its natural habitat. His bite is stronger than
that of a dog’s and he can run up to 40 km per hour.

The wild goat lives on the mountains in Pindos and Rodopi. Its
color is black or dark brown. It eats leaves. Its special
characteristic is its dark colored stripes on its head from its
antlers up to its nostrils. It’s under threat because of illegal
hunting and the destruction of its natural habitat for the creation
of motor cross roads.

Dolphin
Name Dolphin Weight 75‐90 kg Height / length When born it’s one meter long Colour Light grey
Special characteristics This rare animal is one of the most beautiful creatures that live in our seas. It is very fast, reaching speeds of 50km / h, and can be submerged for 2‐5 minutes at depths of 300m.
Breeding: it gives birth to It gives birth to a baby dolphin every two or three years.
Natural habitat: It lives It lives mainly in the Ionian Sea and we can sometimes find it in Crete.

The Vulture lives on mountainous areas. Its colour is brown, brown
grey or yellow brown.It is 1 metre long and with its wings wide
open it can be 240‐280 cm long. It finds it difficult to fly due to its
heavy weight. It eats carcasses, that is to say, dead animals. It lays
only one egg per year. They are in danger due to illegal hunting and
lack of food. Also people destroy their nests and can be really
annoying during the breeding period.

Pelecanus Crispus
Name Pelecanus crispus Weight 10‐12 kilos
Height / length Height 1,20m and length(wings wide open) 3,20m. It’s the second biggest bird in the world
Colour Silver and white feathers. Special characteristics Long beak, short strong feet. Breeding: it gives birth to It lays eggs.
Natural habitat: It lives It lives in lakes and coasts in Prespes, lagoons and islets in Auvrakikos gulf.
Food: it eats It eats small fish. Under threat because The destruction of its natural habitat and illegal hunting.
The Pelecanus crispus lives on the coasts of Prespes,in lakes, lagoons
and on islets in Aurakikos gulf. It’s got silver and white feathers It’s 1,
20 meters tall, the second biggest bird in the world, and weights 10‐12
kilos. It eats small fish. It’s endangered because of the destruction of
its natural habitat and illegal hunting.

Canis Aureus
Name Canis aureus Weight ‐ Height / length It can be as big as a dog Colour Grey, red ,brown, golden Special characteristics ‐ Breeding: it gives birth to ‐ Natural habitat: It lives Axio, Kerkini, Makedonia, Thraki, Halkidiki, Fokida. Food: it eats Amphibians, frogs, fish, mice, rabbits.
Under threat because Destruction of its natural habitat and lack of water, agriculture, urban sprawl and arsonists. It has been hunted and shot down for years.
The Canis aureus (Tsakali) lives in Axio, Kerkini, Makedonia,
Thraki, Halkidiki and Fokida. Its colour is grey, red, brown and
golden. It can’t be as big as a dog. It eats amphibians, frogs,
fish, mice and rabbits. It’s endangered because of the
destruction of its natural habitat ,as people set forests on fire
or cut down trees to have fields to grow their crops or build
their houses, lack of water and the fact that it has been hunted
for years.
