JavaScript is supported by the Camino, Firefox, Google Chrome, iCab, InternetExplorer, Konqueror, Netscape, OmniWeb, Opera, Safari and SeaMonkey Webbrowsers, and so almost everyone can use it. box.3. In the row of coloured icons at the top, click “Content”.4. Click the check box to the left of “Enable JavaScript” so that a tick appears.

(Click again to remove the tick if you want to disable JavaScript.)

5. Click “OK” to close the dialog box.

Google Chrome

1. Click the spanner icon near the top right to open the menu.2. Select “Options”, to open the Google Chrome Options dialog box.3. In the Google Chrome Options dialog box, click the “Under the Bonnet” tab.4. In the Privacy section, click the “Content settings…” button.5. In the Content Settings dialog box, click “JavaScript” in the list of Features.6. Click the “Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)” radio button.

Opera

1. Open the “File” menu (version 6) or the “Tools” menu (versions 7, 8 and 9).2. Point to “Quick preferences”.3. In the submenu that appears, click “Enable JavaScript” to add or remove the

tick.

If you are using Mac OS X, then you need to select “Quick preferences” on the Operamenu, instead of the Tools menu.

Safari

1. Open the Safari menu (OS X), or the “Edit” menu (Windows). (If the menu is notvisible, press the Alt key.)

2. Select “Preferences…”3. In the Preferences dialog box, click the Security icon (a padlock).

4. In the Web Content section, click the check box next to “Enable JavaScript” sothat a tick appears. (Click again to remove the tick if you want to disableJavaScript.)

5. Close the Preferences dialog box by clicking the red button at the top left (OSX) or by clicking the X icon at the top right (Windows).

Camino

1. Open the “Camino” menu.2. Click “Preferences…” to open a dialog box.3. Click “Web Features”.4. In the Content Control section, click “Enable JavaScript… so that a tick

appears.

5. Close the Preferences dialog box by clicking the red button at the top left.

SeaMonkey

1. Open the “Edit” menu (Windows), or the SeaMonkey menu (OS X).2. Select “Preferences…”, to open the Preferences dialog box.3. In the Category list, click the “+” sign next to “Advanced” so that a list of items

appears.4. In the list of items beneath Advanced, click “Scripts & Plug-ins”.5. To the right of the list, beneath Enable JavaScript for, click “Navigator” so that

You may notice that in some of the screenshots above you can also enable anddisable Java in your web browser.

JavaScript is a scripting language that is normally used in web pages and runs onyour computer when your browser displays a page. The ability to run JavaScript isbuilt in to almost all web browsers.

Java is a programming language that is far more capable than JavaScript. Javaprograms can be run on a web server, or within a web browser, or as applications onyour computer. You can now even find specialized Java web hosting. In order to runJava programs on your computer, you need to install either a full version or a run-time version of Java.
