Once encryption has been enabled, you must enable your browser to accept the DataPipeBomb web interface as a safe connection. Otherwise the PipeBomb web address will be blocked. Once fully initialized, the connection between your browser and PipeBomb will remain encrypted and enabled each time you communicate with your PipeBomb device via web browser. If at any time you clear your browser cache, you will need to reenable the DataPipeBomb web interface as a safe connection. Because Certificate Authorities do not provide third party certificate validation services for stand-alone devices, this device offers SSL encryption to secure your browser connection. As a result, however, most browsers assume you may be connecting to a potentially unknown or unsafe website, thus warning of an unsafe connection. This is a standard assumption built into many web browsers, which do not specifically account for stand-alone devices with SSL certificates (as in the case of this PipeBomb). Data Pipe Bomb™

Enable SSL Encryption

PIPEBOMB SSL ENCRYPTION

This device offers strong SSL encryption (2048-bit) to provide secure connections between your PipeBomb and web

browser. Once encryption has been enabled, you must enable your browser to accept the DataPipeBomb web

interface as a safe connection. Otherwise the PipeBomb web address will be blocked. Once fully initialized, the

connection between your browser and PipeBomb will remain encrypted and enabled each time you communicate

with your PipeBomb device via web browser. If at any time you clear your browser cache, you will need to reenable

the DataPipeBomb web interface as a safe connection.

Because Certificate Authorities do not provide third party certificate validation services for stand-alone devices, this

device offers SSL encryption to secure your browser connection. As a result, however, most browsers assume you

may be connecting to a potentially unknown or unsafe website, thus warning of an unsafe connection. This is a

standard assumption built into many web browsers, which do not specifically account for stand-alone devices with

SSL certificates (as in the case of this PipeBomb). If you would like additional technical info, see ‘Certificate

Authority’ on WiKi.

Enable Encryption

How to enable SSL (Browser) encryption:

▪ Login as the PipeBomb Manager

▪ Click the “Data Pipe Bomb™” footer at the bottom of the page (see figure 1).

(figure 1)

▪ You will be redirected to the “Pipe Bomb Device Management” page.

▪ Select the green "Enable Encryption" button (see figure 2).

Note: The "Enable Encryption" button, initially enables encryption. On subsequent instances, it actually toggles

the PipeBomb between encryption and no encryption. I.E., if the Manager goes through the ‘Enable Encryption’

process a second time, it would disable encryption, and re-enable the third time….

Important: if disabling encryption, you must clear your browser cache to reconnect to the PipeBomb interface via

browser.

(figure 2)

▪ Once the operation has completed, you will be redirected to the “502 Bad Gateway” page (see figure 3).

▪ Close the browser tab with the message “502 Bad Gateway”.

▪ Clear your browser cache.

▪ Reopen a new browser tab to continue.

▪ Type "http://pipebomb.local".

▪ Browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera…, will indicate the connection is not secure (see figure 4).

o You may disregard this message, as you now have 2048-bit encryption enabled and the device you

are connecting to is your PipeBomb (not an unknown or unsafe device, as if you were connecting to

an unknown website on the internet).

▪ In the case of the Chrome browser, click on “Advanced” at the bottom-left of your screen

Note: See below for enabling access with browsers: Edge, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera.

As previously detailed: Because Certificate Authorities do not provide third party certificate validation services

for stand-alone devices, this device offers SSL encryption to secure your browser connection. As a result, however,

most browsers assume you may be connecting to a potentially unknown or unsafe website, thus warning of an

unsafe connection. This is a standard assumption built into many web browsers, which do not specifically

account for stand-alone devices with SSL certificates (as in the case of this PipeBomb).

▪ Your encryption and browser permissions are now fully initialized (see figure 6).

▪ You may disregard any ‘Not Secure’ warnings from your browser.

▪ See below to enable access on additional browsers: Edge, Firefox, I.E., Explorer & Opera.

Note: The connection between your browser and PipeBomb will remain encrypted and enabled each time you

communicate with your PipeBomb device via web browser. If at any time you clear your browser cache, you will

need to reenable the DataPipeBomb web interface as a safe connection.
