Project Description

This project is about supporting Egypt in achieving no poverty, which is one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (Goal #1). Eradicating poverty is a must to ensure that all Egyptians’ basic needs are met, and that they are able to pursue better lives. Through the efforts of the interns, we aim to empower impoverished Egyptian communities, ensure their basic living needs are addressed, and support them in creating better futures for themselves. The project aims to bring the communities’ basic wishes to life by using the already available resources. The interns will get the opportunity to work on developing ideas and implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing underprivileged communities in Egypt. The project team will heavily engage with locals and local organizations to come up with and implement solutions that can address the local community’s needs. All of the project team will work on bringing the ideas reached to life. The project team will consist of international volunteers, local volunteers, and AIESEC members.

Project Description

This project will be running from May 2016 until Mid September 2016 by 6 LCs in Cairo. We will be going to “Kafr Ghatati”, an impoverished community, and working continuously to transform it. In its last wave, Enable (back then named Poverty Fighters) was run by AIESEC 6th of October. With the help of 17 interns and community members, we were able to build a nursery for the community there. Now with 6 LCs running it (6th of October, AAST in Cairo, ASU, AUC, CU, GUC) in the same place and at least 300 interns volunteering in it, the project is planned to leave a wonderful mark on this community and on its people. AIESEC in Egypt is planning to transform Kafr Ghatati for good. The main aim of this project is to instill the mindset of being solution oriented in the minds of this community’s members. We want them to see that they can proactively shape their future and bring all their wishes to life, only if they choose to do something about it.

This is a glimpse of the output of the project after just 6 weeks of hard work and with the help of 17 interns. Can you imagine how that community would be transformed

after 4 months of work and with the help of 6 LCs and around 300 interns?
