Session Objectives:

• Understand the role of the meeting leader in facilitating any meeting

• Learn how to effectively facilitate meeting dynamics with participants of all leadership levels including peer leaders

• Learn the fundamentals of how to prepare for, start, facilitate and close a meeting.

• Identify process tools that can help create an open and safe forum for discussion

• Build skills in facilitating conversations from a point of curiosity.

• Learn to Facilitate different types of meetings, such as; Virtual, Emergency, Conference Based Calls, Decision Based and Discussion

• Understand the facilitators’ role post meeting, including how to support the plan of work being implemented.

Methodology Participants will complete a pre-session questionnaire. Methods will include case studies, individual work, group discussion, work in pairs, and small groups as well as post session activities/assignments. During the training session, tools, techniques and behaviors of an effective facilitator will be identified and demonstrated. Facilitator: Rick Proven After 32 years in the federal public service Rick retired from Parks Canada Agency in 2010. He held various positions such as human resource advisor, program manager, project coordinator, informal conflict management advisor and national trainer. Through continuous learning and application, Rick has become an effective facilitator and trainer. Rick’s last assignment with the federal public service was as the initial Project Coordinator for the South West Saskatchewan Multi-Species at Risk Ecosystem Planning Project. This project involved conservation and protection planning initially covering 30 different species and involving seven different federal and provincial departments and agencies, with numerous stakeholder and interest groups.

Rick now works as a private consultant focusing on facilitation design and training. He also spends his time as a member of a worker cooperative, building energy efficient and net zero buildings. Join Rick Proven as he demonstrates tools, techniques and behaviors of highly effective meeting facilitation. Come away with effective processes that will engage you to think and reflect on the material privately, in small groups and in plenary sessions. A variety of media, materials and methods will engage all types of learners.
