Vacuum Bags ELASTOSIL® C offers benefits for the composites industry. It’s a novel WACKER silicone system for in-house production of dimen-sionally accurate, reusable vacu-um bags. Used in the cost-effec-tive production of fiber composite parts by the infusion and prepreg processes, vacuum bags facili-tate the evacuation of the com-posites mold.

Antimisting AgentsSpecial-purpose silicones from WACKER create an invisible, highly effective hydrophilic film on glass surfaces. Instead of con-densing to droplets, the moist air forms an extremely thin, continu-ous water film on the glass sur-faces that does not scatter light. As a result, glass surfaces such as car windows and eyeglasses do not fog up, and optimum visi-bility is assured.

Rinse-Off AgentsAmino-functional silicone fluids “shine” as car-wash agents. After the last wash cycle, they are sprayed onto the wet car as highly diluted solutions to repel water and protect the car paintwork – without silicone buildup. In rinse-off agents, they speed up drying times by causing the water film to tear spon-taneously. They also leave an at-tractive sheen and form a protec-tive layer on the clean paintwork.

Water Repellents for GlassSpecial silicone-based water repellents create an invisible, effective and extremely uniform film on various glass surfaces, such as vehicle windows and mirrors. Vinyl Conditioners Special silicones from WACKER reliably stop plastic (vinyl) surfaces becoming brit-tle, restore colors and impart an attractive sheen while reducing renewed dirt pick-up. Paint ConditionersPaint conditioners provide effective long-term protection for new and previously cleaned paintwork. Wet-Type GasketsHigh-performance wet-type gaskets must be utterly reliable over the lifetime of the component. You can count on ELASTOSIL® silicones here. They confer maximum functionality on both seals in the engine compartment and in electronic compo-nents, even when exceptional demands are made on heat resistance and material properties. Spark-Plug BootsSilicones excel in terms of their insulation properties. They effectively prevent unwant-ed leakage currents and high voltage break-downs. Turbocharger HosesTo perform as well as gasoline-fuelled cars, diesel vehicles need a turbocharger. If the turbocharger hose contains modern silicones, it will deliver the required perfor-mance with ease. When a car is being driven, the turbocharger hose is constantly being subjected to massive pressure diffe-rences, temperature fluctuations and me-chanical vibration. Optimum tear resistance of the hose is guaranteed by heat-curing ELASTOSIL® silicone rubber (HTV) in a composite bond with polyaramide woven fabric.

Radiator HosesRadiator hoses have to operate reliably over a wide temperature range. Airbag CoatingsAirbags are standard features of many modern vehicles. Silicone coated airbags provide extra safety to car occupants and contribute to trouble-free processing during production. Silicones keep the airbag flexi-ble and resistant to temperature fluctua-tions, aging and abrasion. The substances they release on burning have a very low order of toxicity. Our silicones guarantee a long service life, enhance tear strength and can be readily pigmented. For sophisticated new types, such as curtain airbags, WACKER has developed special innovative liquid rubber grades.

Viscous CouplingsViscous couplings are used in vehicles to selectively control the torque on shafts – in the drive train or in ventilation propellers. In a viscous coupling, power is transmitted continuously by means of liquid friction as the torque increases. Smooth power trans-mission is assured by WACKER® AK-VISC silicone fluids. Our silicone fluids offer long service lives at high temperatures and shear rates, low moment fade after long running periods, as well as low viscosity tempera-ture-dependence.
