Then Je- sus’ parable presents the exact opposite of any reasonable em- ployment contract, any respectable definition of “justice.” Instead, how utterly prodigal God’s goodness toward us, how unmerited God’s gifts. For Jesus’ parable challenges our usual definitions of suc- cess: to be healthy, wealthy, and wise; to acquire posses- sions, educational and professional accomplishments, ath- letic awards, other forms of achievement, status, prestige; to classify others as “better off,” “worse off,” or “about the same.” Such comparisons lead to arrogance or prompt en- vy, both reactions incompatible with membership in God’s kingdom. What ignited anger in the parable was the land- owner making “latecomers” equal to the “all-day crew.” For us, the “latecomers” may be non-practicing parishion- ers, non-believers, or notorious sinners welcomed back with “last rites” at “the eleventh hour.” Often, among “devout” disciples, such miracles of grace prompt not thankful prayers but righteous (jealous?) indignation that those “last in” should be treated as “equal to us.” Like the prodigal son’s elder brother: “For years I have slaved for you!” (cf. Luke 15:29). How different if we, like Paul, be- lieved that “life is Christ” (Philippians 1:21). Our stand- ing—first, last—would be utterly irrelevant. To share life, to share Christ with any fellow-worker at whatever hour would be sheer joy. On the other hand, the parable propos- es a secondary, salutary moral: The problem with eleventh- hour conversions is that Death sometimes arrives at 10:30! Question of the Week How will I stop acting like a self-appointed judge of “latecomers” and begin serving as a member of God’s “welcome wagon”? After all, God has welcomed even me.

Special Intentions

On Sundays in Ordinary Time, the Old Testament illumines the Gospel: “My thoughts are not

your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the

LORD” (Isaiah 55:8). Then Je-sus’ parable presents the exact opposite of any reasonable em-

ployment contract, any respectable definition of “justice.” Instead, how utterly prodigal God’s goodness toward us,

how unmerited God’s gifts.

For Jesus’ parable challenges our usual definitions of suc-cess: to be healthy, wealthy, and wise; to acquire posses-

sions, educational and professional accomplishments, ath-letic awards, other forms of achievement, status, prestige;

to classify others as “better off,” “worse off,” or “about the same.” Such comparisons lead to arrogance or prompt en-vy, both reactions incompatible with membership in God’s kingdom. What ignited anger in the parable was the land-owner making “latecomers” equal to the “all-day crew.”

For us, the “latecomers” may be non-practicing parishion-

ers, non-believers, or notorious sinners welcomed back with “last rites” at “the eleventh hour.” Often, among “devout” disciples, such miracles of grace prompt not

thankful prayers but righteous (jealous?) indignation that those “last in” should be treated as “equal to us.” Like the prodigal son’s elder brother: “For years I have slaved for you!” (cf. Luke 15:29). How different if we, like Paul, be-lieved that “life is Christ” (Philippians 1:21). Our stand-

ing—first, last—would be utterly irrelevant. To share life, to share Christ with any fellow-worker at whatever hour

would be sheer joy. On the other hand, the parable propos-es a secondary, salutary moral: The problem with eleventh-hour conversions is that Death sometimes arrives at 10:30!

Question of the Week How will I stop acting like a self-appointed judge of

“latecomers” and begin serving as a member of God’s “welcome wagon”? After all, God has welcomed even me.

extremaunción” a última hora.

Please join us in praying for our Catechists: O Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family.

We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and arms, calls forth and challenges, is

compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that

Christ addresses to all of his disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

This year we are going to jump right into some deep contemplative theology. It is essential to gain an under-standing of how God wishes to use you for the work He wishes to accomplish. There is someone who does not

rejoice in the revelation of a creature created to "the im-age and likeness of God"-Satan. After the events in the

Garden of Eden, God turns Satan's apparent victory up-on himself. It becomes the means by which God gives

humanity another divine lesson. We learn that the "Father is rich in mercy" Ephesians 2:4.

In Jesus Christ, the heart of man re-expanded to all that it was created to be. God wishes to give to you the heart of Christ so that through you He can do His work in the world. God has given each of you the heart of His

Son. Through it, He wants you to do amazing things! We invite all males to join us

every Tuesday @ 6:30pm in Flanagan Hall as we dive deeper into our spiritual to study The Revelation Of The

Father. Join us as we feed your belly and your soul.
