II FESTIVAL DE RONDAS INFANTILES

Los niños son creatividad, música, movimiento y alegría, ellos expresan sus emociones y se relacionan con otros. Es así, como este año realizamos el II Festival de Rondas Infantiles Colegio La Enseñanza, con el ánimo de rescatar nuestras tradiciones y fomentar en los niños el aprendizaje lúdico, mediante cantos y bailes

Las Rondas Infantiles favorecen el desarrollo, la creatividad, la imaginación, la expresión musical, el conocimiento deL esquema corporal, las nociones espaciales básicas, la expresión de sentimientos y de vivencias. Además, el aprendizaje de lecto-escritura, convivencia e integración social.

Nuestras estudiantes de Preescolar (Prejardín a Transición) fueron las anfitrionas del Festival y llevaron a cabo una hermosa presentación. Este año la invitación congregó a 350 niños de 15 jardines infantiles y colegios de la ciudad. Contamos con la presencia de: Colegio Berckley, Jardín Potencial Kids, Colegio Buen Consejo, Colegio María Auxiliadora, Jardín Happy Time, Jardín Living Explorer, Jardín Nuevos Líderes, Jardín Futuros Sabios, Colegio San José, Jardín Caperucita Roja, Colegio Medalla Milagrosa, Jardín TEA, Jardín Corazoncitos Alegres, Mi Carrusel Musical y la Institución Educativa Distrital Lestonnac de la Compañía de María.

Alegría, cantos, juegos y rondas fueron el marco perfecto para la realización de este Festival, el cual tuvo como objetivo expresar y mostrar el potencial que tienen los niños en edad preescolar.

El evento contó con la participación de los padres de familia y docentes, quienes disfrutaron de la actividad.

Obra de Teatro TransformaciónEDITH MUNÁRRIZ, UNA MUJER VALIENTE QUE ENCONTRÓ SU MISIÓN

Con motivo de nuestros 75 años, se llevó a cabo la presentación de la obra de teatro Transformación, basada en la vida de Edith Munárriz, quien fuera Reina del Carnaval de Barranquilla y posteriormente descubriera su vocación y su misión en la Compañía de María.

La obra es el resultado de un detallado estudio de la vida de Edith Munárriz Steffens y la oportunidad para dar a conocer la misión de la Compañía de María. Se presenta de una manera teatral, por lo tanto no se narra literalmente, hay saltos en el tiempo y ajustes de acuerdo con las necesidades de la escena.

Para elegir a las protagonistas se abrió una convocatoria en los grados superiores de bachillerato, que tuvo como resultado la escogencia de 12 alumnas con cualidades destacadas en escucha activa, colaboración y concentración. Estas jóvenes iniciaron clases en octubre de 2015, innovando en su cotidianidad y despertando su creatividad, lanzándolas a la aventura de crear y al igual que el nombre de la obra, empezaron a Transformar sus cuerpos, reacciones, maneras de hablar y sobre todo formas de relacionarse con otros.

Mónica Chiquillo, experimentada dramaturga en la ciudad fue la responsable de la dirección y el montaje de la obra, así como de la ardua pero gratificante labor de preparar a las estudiantes para que fueran capaces de cumplir con las exigencias de la puesta en escena.

Para nuestras jóvenes artistas fueron meses duros, pero también de gran crecimiento y aprendizaje, en los cuales cada dificultad afrontada se convertía en una fortaleza. Igualmente la disciplina asumida en el montaje de la obra, es para ellas un derrotero a seguir en su vida diaria.Los medios de comunicación locales se interesaron por difundir e invitar a la presentación de la obra, una ambiciosa puesta en escena que dejó muy en alto el nombre de La Enseñanza.

Generó entre los espectadores un ambiente de oración, basado en el carisma y la espiritualidad de la Compañía de María, y en ella se vieron reflejadas muchas de las enseñanzas de Santa Juana de Lestonnac.

Transformación confirma una vez más que actividades como éstas, deben realizarse con mayor frecuencia en los colegios y barrios de la ciudad. Nuestros jóvenes necesitan de estos espacios de expresión y esta oportunidad los acerca al mundo de las artes, abriendo para ellos un abanico de opciones en las que pueden potencializar sus talentos.

SHAKIRA VISITA SU COLEGIO

La cantante, Shakira Mebarak, exalumna, aprovechó la oportunidad que le brindaba la grabación del video de la canción La Bicicleta, en los alrededores del Colegio, para ingresar al mismo, saludar a los docentes, alumnas y personal de administración y de servicios que se encontraban allí en esos momentos y recorrer algunos de los sitios entrañables para ella.

Esta grabación la realizaba con el cantante samario Carlos Vives y la visita, que no formaba parte de la agenda prevista, nos sorprendió a todos. Ella, con su característica sencillez, se aproximó a las personas y en señal de afecto y cercanía dio su autógrafo a quienes se lo solicitaron.

Es motivo de regocijo experimentar el especial cariño que Shakira siente por el colegio La Enseñanza ya que, expresado con sus propias palabras, la formación recibida hace parte de lo que ella es hoy en día y siempre estará agradecida por los valores que le fueron transmitidos y que supo acoger y poner en práctica.

Buenos días muchachos. La reunión del día de hoy la programé asumiendo mi papel como personero, no es ganar y hasta allí llegar. Creo que es necesario que nos demos cuenta de que el rumbo de este país está en nuestras manos, no solo somos la generación del mañana, en este momento ya somos, y hemos venido siendo, una fuerza política activa. ¿Qué estamos dispuestos a hacer por nuestro país? El simple hecho de estar vivos es poder, poder cambiar mi entorno, poder ser felices; y cada segundo es una oportunidad más de lograr lo que queremos.

Preocupa el hecho de que podemos dormir en una cama, y millones, miles de millones de personas no, o ni siquiera pueden dormir porque están llevando a cabo una feroz lucha por sobrevivir. Preocupa aún más el hecho de que somos conscientes de eso, y de muchas injusticias más, pero hacemos poco o nada al respecto. Me miro y pregunto ¿por qué no podemos hacer nada? Somos estudiantes, hijos, ciudadanos del común, no contamos con los recursos ni los contactos, no estamos en la posición del sistema adecuada para cambiarlo. No, no podemos hacer nada, porque nosotros mismos nos imposibilitamos. No podemos hacer nada porque solo vemos lo material y no nos damos cuenta de que cada segundo es una oportunidad más para lograr lo que queremos; con cada acto que hacemos podemos cambiar nuestro entorno, transformar las injusticias que tenemos cerca. Para cambiar el mundo se tienen que hacer pequeños cambios paulatinos, cambios que se pueden dar desde cualquier posición en el sistema, las

grandes revoluciones traen más pérdidas por muertos y sangre, que beneficios por el cambio que se logra.

Soy consciente de las injusticias de mi país, los problemas con la Rama Judicial, los problemas de la educación pública en Colombia, soy consciente de que mi país no puede proteger plenamente a sus habitantes en su vida, honra y bienes, que no puede saciar las necesidades de la mayoría. No quiero solo criticar y ver aspectos malos de mi país, la vida no se trata de preocuparse, sino de ocuparse.

Son pequeños cambios los que debemos hacer desde nuestra vida cotidiana. Somos hijos, capaces de transformar nuestras familias, somos estudiantes capaces de transformar nuestro Colegio, somos ciudadanos capaces de transformar nuestra ciudad, son pequeños cambios que en su sumatoria hacen la diferencia; somos una comunidad que unida puede lograr grandes cambios.

No se trata de querer las cosas, un cambio, la paz, justicia social. Se trata de construir lo que queremos, acá y entre todos.

A este mundo no llegamos solos, no podemos aspirar a metas individuales y egoístas, necesitamos proyectos de vida acordes con la sociedad, con una visión social. ¿Qué vamos a hacer con nuestro país?, ¿Vamos a pasar de largo? ¿Nos iremos?, O, ¿aportaremos nuestro grano de arena? No quiero que esto les suene a un sujeto más hablando, quiero que les quede el mensaje, que nos pongamos los pantalones, asumamos el papel que nos corresponde en el país y lo encaminemos hacia un futuro mejor, un futuro donde seamos consecuentes y responsables de nuestra libertad, siendo armónicamente

lo que somos, estando en paz con los seres que tenemos a nuestro alrededor, con el medio ambiente que tenemos en nuestras manos. Nuestras acciones aclaran que nuestra vida ha valido la pena, no solo para nosotros haciendo lo que nos gusta, sino también repercutiendo positivamente en los demás. Muchachos de once, estamos a la puerta de entrada de un país complicado, ¿Vamos a ser uno más del montón?, O ¿Vamos a cambiar nuestro país? Puede que ese cambio no lo logremos ver como generación, pero sentaremos las bases para un futuro mejor.

Estamos en una etapa de la vida donde empezamos a ser consecuentes con nuestros actos, donde empezamos a dar nuestros pasos más determinantes. Dentro de poco nos encontraremos de frente con una realidad totalmente distinta y ahí será fundamental cada decisión que tomemos.

Halfway down the road to realistic “CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME”!

We are halfway between the beginning of the Year of Mercy (December 8, 2015) and its scheduled conclusion (November 20, 2016), as announced by Pope Francis. Surely this “conclusion” is not meant to be the end, but it can be the conclusion we have reached that the emphasis placed on mercy this year must be carried on and on and on with sustained enthusiasm.

It seems the Pope’s message of care for our earth and for one another has reached beyond his and our expectations, and after amazing mileage, has much further to go. We have but to look at the recent writings and shared reflections that have circulated the globe, resulting in transformation of indifference into interest, of apathy into action, of carelessness into careful attention…ultimately, transformation of hardness of heart into the tenderness of mercy…a compassionate view that brings to the surface of mind, heart, and will the profound goodness that God said of His creation, and that we are called to contemplate and relish.

Every sector of the Church has taken to heart and declared in word and by action the viability of implementing the message of hope for our human family. There is an urgency in the invitation by the Holy Father for us to go forth from the mainstream and enter into the peripheries of society in order to gain the insight and the passion needed to move closer to the human community of which God dreams.

The sector in which we are privileged to promote this message of tender mercy is in education, be it in a

UnitedStatesschool or in any place where there are persons who are experiencing the merciful presence of God in their lives and can be taught that it is a gift not to keep, but to share with others.

This midpoint of the Year of Mercy is a good time to check out our performance in this mission. Any project will proceed to improvement in the measure that progress is evaluated at key moments. There is a compelling benefit in evaluating our involvement in the mission of experiencing and witnessing to the merciful love of God at this point. With a bit of effort we can discover the means to improve current achievements and implement the enlightened creativity to guide the course toward future successes.

Our educational programs are maintained relevant through periodic evaluations and revitalized by effective means and methods to improve instruction. It would seem spiritually profitable to do a similar evaluation of our progress in experiencing and witnessing to God’s merciful love towards others, and we could even name this evaluation our “examination of conscience”. Would it not be most encouraging for us to see what positive accomplishments we have attained so far? And from there, would come the light to correct any mistakes and the motivation to simply and humbly acknowledge insufficient involvement, all of which would be followed by God-inspired resolutions. Who knows what further benefit can come for the world, our “common home”, and for our brothers and sisters everywhere during the second half of this Year of Mercy and thereafter?

CREATIVE OR ACADEMIC SUBJECTS, THE BEST WAY TO BOOST AND IMPROVE LEARNING AT SCHOOL

Nowadays, most western countries have as one of its main goals a holistic education. Nevertheless, when schools have to decide the schedule they are going to offer to students, a curious question arises in their minds: should we offer creative subjects? The most common answer is no, but why? These subjects are such as important as math or science; however, schools usually underestimate them.

Some people consider creative subjects a waste of time, a class that fulfills the function of a break and have no significance in the future of students. Their main argument for not including this type of subjects in the school schedule is the “waste of time” that they represent, a valuable time that could be used in more relevant subjects that are going to be useful in the future.

The problem here is that people do not realize the importance of this kind of subjects, they are essential for the proper development of personality and to strengthen relationships with others and oneself. It has been proved in an investigation by Heather L. Stuckey and Jeremy Nobel (members of the National Center of Biotechnology of United States), that art and creativity are not just a way for learning through the senses but are also necessary to maintain a healthy mind and a stable life. These classes are the only way students have to express their feelings and thoughts on school

without any limitation. Furthermore, there are plenty of students that consider these subjects as their future career, maybe someone is planning to study dance, or gastronomy. Prioritizing subjects useful for the future of some students and sacrificing the future of others is also a form of inequity.

In conclusion, schools should reconsider the importance of these subjects in their educational programme and in the lives of their students; it is also important to shall change the conception that most people have about them. Creative subjects must be offered in all schools and should be taken seriously by students and teachers as well. Finally, these subjects should not be in the schedule to comply with government regulation; they should be given importance because of the students who are going to work in this industry.

CREATIVE OR ACADEMIC SUBJECTS, THE BEST WAY TO BOOST LEARNING AT SCHOOL

Students around the world have different opinions whether they should be taking academic or creative subjects. This discussion has always been solved by teachers, principals or experts in education, people who end up choosing what is the best academic plan students should go after. In consequence, academic plans are different for every school, city and country. But, how can they be completely sure this academic plan is the best one for each student? How can these people tell which subjects are useful or important? All of these academic plans cannot keep us from wondering: should students be taking creative or academic subjects?

We cannot deny academic subjects are important for almost every single student and they are necessary for most of college careers. Without most of these subjects, students would not even be able to graduate. On the other hand, creative subjects are important too. A study of “Universidad de los Andes”, in Colombia, showed how creative activities and tasks reduce the levels of stress and improve concentration in students. In addition, creative subjects allow students to discover talents that might end up being their profession.

Although this may be true, we have to keep in mind some of the academic subjects students must take are not useful in their future lives. Therefore, students take subjects that end up turning their academic plan completely unnecessary and stressful. Similar situations happen when students are forced to take creative subjects. Schools cannot expect pupils to be good at all of these artistic subjects. In fact, if they are forced to draw or dance, chances are that they would get more pressure and tension in school.

With this in mind, we can conclude that there should be a balance among subjects students take, managing their academic plans, at least in higher grades. This way they would be able to decide what subjects will not only be useful in their future and career, but also subjects they would really enjoy and be good at. It is not about which subjects students must be taking, it is about what

subjects would really be important and useful for each student in particular, while they are in the school and, specially for their future.

LEARNING ENGLISH, HAVING FUN

Children are always ready for learning; they want to sing, to play and to enjoy school every day. It´s fantastic how they can learn and apply new knowledge every day when doing different kinds of activities which allow them to link all what they have in their minds to new concepts and ideas.

La Enseñanza Bogotá wants to show a great strategy to learn English by having fun. The pictures included in this article show how through riddles, chants, poems, tongue twisters etc, teachers can involve children with a new language; using this strategy allows them to write, identify and learn different vocabulary, involves them in listening to others when presenting their work and gives them practice in talking to everyone. Just using these kinds of writings, children not only just have fun, but also learn and develop all the English skills they need.

In short words, we would like to invite you to use activities like this through which children can explore their knowledge of the language and can learn in a meaningful way. Then, what are you waiting for? JUST DO IT! , let´s allow our kids to continue being happy while learning.
