Snow Day Packets Hello! This year, Randolph County Schools have implemented Snow Day packets as a way of having students continue their learning at home on days when they cannot attend school. There may be up to 5 days where students can complete their packets at home. If you are receiving this packet, your student is in Mr. Thompson or Mr. Wilfong’s special education science class. If your student is in other special education classes in other subjects, you may receive Snow Day packets from other special education teachers as well. On the first snow packet day, the student will need to complete the first page of assignments and return it to school when they come back. This assignment will be a grade in the gradebook, so students will need to complete it. On other snow days, they will need to complete the other days in order. Here are the assignments in this packet and some general instructions for each one. DAY 1 – Complete the Electricity Word Search. There are only 9 words and if students find all the words, they will receive 100 percent on this assignment. For 10 extra credit points on their next test or notebook grade, students can write on the back which three of the words in the word search are famous scientists and explain what they discovered or invented. Students have to write at least one complete sentence for each to get the extra credit. DAY 2 – Complete How Fireworks Work. Steps are from bottom to top and students must label parts of the firework and answer the two questions (complete sentences not required). If students want additional extra credit, they can write 1-2 paragraphs on the back about where fireworks come from! DAY 3 – Complete Dinnertime for Animals. Identify the herbivores from the picture and write them on the line. Any part of the science investigation (drawing a picture comparing teeth or making paper puppets of herbivore and carnivore dinosaurs) will be worth 5 extra credit points, up to 10 total for doing both. DAY 4 – Complete Scrambled Space Soup. If students get stumped, they can find answers at the bottom, but try to figure out the answers on your own first without cheating! For extra credit, come up with two

Snow Day PacketsHello!

For extra credit, come up with two more space words, scramble them, and put a definition for those words on the back.

DAY 5 – Complete the Winter Word Search. No extra credit is available for this assignment!

On Snow Packet days, I will be at school and available to help students and parents if you have any questions from 10 AM to 2 PM. You may call the school or send me a message through LiveGrades. My school email is [email protected], and you may send me an email any time with questions or concerns, either on snow packet days or in general, and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Mr. Thompson
