General Conditions of Employment

Total Remuneration: $110,000.00* *Total remuneration includes superannuation, as detailed below

Base Salary $97,995.00

POSITION PURPOSE (Why does this position exist)

This is a key leadership position within the Development Services Directorate and is a member of City of Launceston's Senior Management Team. The role leads a diverse group of professionals who have regular liaison with members of the public, business and community organisations, ultimately to provide services that enable our community to prosper. Key objectives are to:

Provide high level strategic advice to the Executive Management Committee and

Council, regarding business and community development for the municipality;

Oversee the planning and execution of a range of community activities (programs, projects, events, etc.) within the Launceston municipality;

Monitor the engagement and support activities for business development within the municipality;

Regularly review the profile of the city to encourage tourism and event activities, including development of strategies, programs and services that support the tourism and event industries;

Provide proactive leadership to employees with the Department and oversee efficient engagement with stakeholders within and outside the Council;

Coordinate Council's Emergency Recovery policy, planning and activities.

Undertake special projects as requested by the Director and/or General Manager.

Business Liaison Work with the Economic Development Officer, Manager of Planning Services, and other key Council officers to provide information and support for businesses in the Launceston municipality.

Sound management processes in place. Efficient stakeholder liaison. End customer satisfaction.

Regularly liaise with the Economic Development Officer to ensure business liaison and support activities (including new business start-up enquiries) are appropriately supported and efficiently managed.

Process of managing enquiries in place. Evidence of corrective actions initiated where process improvement is required.

Provide advice and recommendations to the Director and General Manager on policies and strategies to assist the establishment and sustainability of business operators in Launceston.

Timely and accurate provision of advice. Evidence of contingency planning.

Community Development

Work with a variety of community and government stakeholders in the development and implementation of community development activities / programs for the Launceston municipal area.

Effective partnerships established.

Be responsible for coordinating Council's Community and Events Grants Scheme.

Community and Events Grant Scheme reviewed and improvements implemented.

Provide advice on demographic and community development statistics relevant to the Launceston municipality.

Accurate advice given in a timely manner.

Research and oversee funding opportunities relevant to the Department’s activities. Oversee a review process for unsuccessful funding submissions and facilitate a team approach to lessons learned.

The position is ultimately responsible for the Visitor Information Centre, with the Travel Centre Team Leader as a direct report. The Visitor Information Centre is located close to Town Hall in Cameron Street. In addition, the position has an important role in social recovery as a result of emergencies within the municipality (such as floods or fire).
