Claimant Counts
As of December 2019, the Claimant Count for the Nottinghamshire region is 305 higher than it was a month ago. For the City, this equates to 9,725 claimants, whilst the County has 12,220, which is made up of 7,035 males and 5,185 females.
The claimant counts also increased in six Local Authority Districts in the region, over the month. The largest increase was in Mansfield, which saw a rise of 110 individuals, equalling a change of 5.41%. Meanwhile, there was a decrease of 25 individuals in Bassetlaw, or -1.33%.
Across the Districts gender wise, Ashfield has the greatest number of claimants with 2,370. This is broken down by 975 females and 1,395 males. The lowest is Rushcliffe with 990 claimants, made up of 420 females and 570 males.
As for the Parliamentary Constituencies, claimants increased in seven of the eight during December. The largest increase was in Mansfield, with a rise of 110 over the month, representing a 5.41% growth. There was a decrease in Bassetlaw, with a decline of 15 individuals, representing a 0.83% reduction.
Compared to a year ago, the rates of change across Parliamentary Constituencies range from 14.56% in Bassetlaw, to 77.08% in Rushcliffe. The average rate of change across all eight areas is 42.33%.
Additionally, against the previous month, three of the four of the TTWA’s have increased their claimant numbers. Mansfield saw the largest growth, increasing by 190 individuals, or 3.63%. There was a decrease in Worksop and Retford involving 10 claimants, equalling a decline of 0.50%.
Employment Counts
For quarter three of 2019, the Employment Count in Nottinghamshire totals 418,800. This is split between 148,300 individuals within the City and 400,800 across the remaining County, totalling 206,000 males and 194,800 females respectively.
Within the Districts, Rushcliffe has the highest percentage of those in employment aged between 16 to 64, with 81.90%. This is broken down by 83.70% of its 16-64 male population being in employment, and 80.00% of females. The lowest in the region is Newark and Sherwood, with a total rating of 72.70%.
Of these Districts, Rushcliffe also has the highest percentage of those aged 16-64 in self-employment, with 15.00%. The lowest in Nottinghamshire is Mansfield with 4.90%.
Of the Parliamentary Constituencies, all eight have increased compared to quarter two. The highest of these is Newark, with an employment count of 56,400, and the lowest is Gedling with 45,300.
Gender wise, the Parliamentary Constituency of Ashfield has the greatest percentage of males aged 16-64 in employment, on 82.30%. Broxtowe has the most females in employment for the same aged band, with a rating of 80.50%.
Comparatively, against the previous quarter, three of the four TTWA’s have increased the number of individuals in employment in their respective regions. This includes Lincoln on 77.90%, an increase of 0.10%, Nottingham on 73.80%, up 0.80%, and Worksop and Retford on 78.20%, up 3.4%. Mansfield has seen a marginal decrease of 0.60%, with an employment rating now of 72.5%.
