NOW WHAT?

Redesigning the school to work transition

Page 2: Empathy map

Julie is a 27 year-old who graduated in 2009 from a foreign university. Her visa type didn’t allow her to work outside of her country and when she went back home, all the people she was competing for jobs with had plenty of experience, but all she had was a great degree from a prestigious university.

MEET JULIE

SHE SAYS

I mean, I studied A LOT and worked

my ass off

They won’t even give me a chance to prove

that I’m capable of learning.

Where am I supposed to get experience from if no one will hire me

with no work experience?

I didn’t think it would be this hard

I was always the best in everything I did, and now I’m behind everyone

SHE THINKS

She’s settling

She’ll never get her dream job

It might be too late to try and go down the

path she wants

She can be the best at her job if

they just give her a chance

Just a diploma from a nice

university is not enough

SHE FEELS

ANGRYDISAPPOINTED

LIKE A FAILURELET DOWN

IT’S NOT FAIR

WORRIED ABOUT THE FUTURE

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Julie, a graduate from a prestigious university who is extremely hard working and is working now in a different field than her interest, needs a way to either acquire experience or show her life experiences in a way that is valid for the companies in the field she wants to hire her, because even though her competition might have more work experience, she has a lot to add and share and will work hard and give her best if she’s on her dream job.
