CLASSES FOR 2019/2020

FROM FR JONATHAN Dear parents and carers, It was lovely to be in School for the international and maypole dancing and the international evening this week and to see the creativity and choreographic ability of our children, ably led by our staff and supported by you, our parents and carers who make up our wonder-fully diverse school. This Saturday is London Pride and we rejoice that our school and communities mirror the inclusivity which should be at the heart of every community. This Sunday, since it is the first Sunday of the month, is our All Age Eucharist at 1030 with our children taking a full part in doing the readings, leading the prayers, singing in the choir, serving at the altar and there will also be a special talk for them. It would be great if as many children from all ages from the school could be with us as we celebrate God’s inclusive and generous love, who puts an answer-ing love into our hearts and who calls us to show that same love and generosity in the community and the world we serve.

2T’s VISIT

This week, 2T were visited by Lital and Yuval

(Ethan’s parents) who taught us about the Jewish

festival of Hanukkah. We learnt the story of Ha-

nukkah, the importance of the menorah and even

got to sample some of the wonderful foods they

eat to celebrate this miraculous event. After we

had a go at playing the dreidel and made up our

own rules to the game! Thank you so much Lital,

Yuval and of course our very own Ethan!

PACKED LUNCHES Just a reminder to please ensure that your child brings their packed lunch with them to school in the morning. Please do not drop pack lunches off during the school day as we cannot guarantee that the lunches will be passed onto to your child.

SPANISH DAY

Our Spanish Day was a huge success and the children had a

wonderful time celebrating the language and culture.

They danced the flamenco, tasted some Spanish food and

found out about famous people from Spanish speaking

countries!

Thank you to Miss Bond, Miss Arellano, Leon’s Mum, Klea’s

Mum and Luken’s Mum.

YR 3 TRIP TO HYDE PARK

On Monday 3W visited Hyde Park to take part in a 2 hour ori-

enteering lesson. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and man-

aged to find our way around the park by reading maps and

using compasses.

TATE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP IN Y3

Year 3 were invited to take part in an exhibition by artist Steve McQueen and the Tate. Year 3 classes across London were photographed to take part in the largest group portrait ever made. This exhibition will be centre stage in Tate Britain for six months from November 2019 until May 2020. Year 3 will also have the chance to visit the Tate next year to see their class photo in the portrait.

YEAR 5’S TRIP TO THE TOWER OF LONDON

This week 5W visited the Tower of London where we were given a

guided tour by a Tudor gaoler! Our guide recounted us with exciting

stories from the Tower’s dark history while we explored some of the

cells and towers that held some of Britain’s dangerous prisoners.

INTERNATIONAL DANCING & MAYPOLE

We had a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine on Thursday watching Years 1-6 perform their dances. Well done to Year 6 for their suc-

cessful maypole dance a long-standing tradition of Emmanuel School.

Y5 & 6 BANDSTAND

Year 5 and 6 were delighted to perform some of the pieces

they have practised this year at the bandstand in Parliament

Hill yesterday. It was a beautiful day and thank you to the

parents and carers who came to support the children.

SECONDARY TRANSITION Thank you to all those that attended the meeting on Monday evening on secondary transition; we hope you found it useful. Thank you also to Clare Craig, Priya Malik and Julie Goldsmith for sharing their experiences of the transition process. The presentation is now on our school website under 'Parents and Carers' and 'Secondary Transfer'. Clare's presentation is also on there, as well as other useful links.

FUTURE OF THE PFE: NEW COMMITTEE FOR 2019-2020

As the PFE's fundraising year is coming to a close, it's time to plan for the next school year. Deborah Weston, Kelsey Shaikh and

Renee Sunila will be stepping down from the Committee at the end of this fundraising year so the PFE will urgently need volunteers for the following roles for 2019-2020:

Chair

Vice-Chair Communications Officer

Treasurer

Without these roles filled, the PFE cannot continue to operate as a charity and we will not be able to hold events or fundraise next

year. If you are interested in a committee role, or would like a description of any of the positions, please contact Deborah Weston

as soon as possible. Committee members will be voted in at the AGM which is to be held in September.

INTERNATIONAL EVENING– THANK YOU

We hope you enjoyed last night's International Evening. This marks the end of the PFE's fundrais-ing efforts for 2018-19! We would like to thank everyone who volunteered, donated and brought lovely food dishes. Without your help this event would not be possible. We would also like to express our gratitude to the businesses that supported the event: Oakhill Resi-dential was once again a fantastic sponsor and the raffle was filled with wonderful items donated by our generous local businesses (please see the flyer below).

CLASS FUNDRAISERS

Job well done Reception! Reception made the most of the brilliant weather at their Trattoria stall on Saturday, making an incredible £730 for their class! It was a jovial at-mosphere and a fantastic team effort with many families from the class lending a hand. Last but not least... Year 1 There is a one-week hiatus before the last class, Year 1, gets their turn at the Trattoria frontage. They will hold their stall on 13th July, from 10am to 1:30pm.
