YOGA AS A PATH OF AWAKENING Yoga has a way of finding us. Just when we need it the most, this practice lands in the pathway of our lives, forever changing the journey. I am so passionate about this practice as a vehicle of transformation and awakening: I have seen my own life evolve in the fire of the practice, and so I know first hand the possibility. What I though impossible has become possible, and so much magic that has been beyond my field of vision is now front and center, and a part of my life.

Yoga is the gift of awakening: not just awakening every cell of who we are, not just awakening the energetic flow within— but also awakening to our potential.

The practice helps us own our own power again: we drop old stories, learn to build and contain our prana. We bring our conscious awareness into every atom of the body, creating conscious awakening. We become people fully devoted to our personal (and thus global) evolution and transformation.

I have found that together, the path of Bhakti yoga combined with strong asana and meditation practice, is unlike any thing else out there for transforming us as yogis and yoginis. Restorative yoga, on the other end of the spectrum, I feel offers the deep quiet the body craves. Together, the two transform our mind and hearts.

BIOGRAPHY EMILY PERRY

[E-RYT 500 RYS-200 RYS-300, L.Ac., MTOM, Manduka Ambassador]

Making the everyday sacred, Emily's known for weaving energetics & Bhakti [devotion] into strong flow + soulful vinyasa practice.

Born in Los Angeles, Emily came into contact with yoga and pilates as a dancer in L.A. and Santa Monica. It wasn’t until college in upstate New York, however, that the practice of yoga and meditation found her. She discovered yoga around the same time she started practicing Zen meditation. It was a book called “Light on Yoga,” that really hooked her, as she found it to be an amazing manual for living a joyful, healthy, peaceful life.

During that same time Emily began studying herbalism with Native American healers, and soon found a calling to study Chinese Medicine and holistic health. Eventually, when she returned to Los Angeles, she dove into vinyasa flow yoga during its early stages, and felt immediately at home. Emily has studied with Janet Stone, Jody Greene, Christina Sell, Mark Stephens and others in the vinyasa tradition, and still continues her meditation practice she began back in 1994.

Emily’s yoga practice has carried her through Acupuncture school, two pregnancies, and has become the heart of her everyday life. Emily eventually left her Acupuncture practice as teaching became a full time offering. Now, as a wife and mother with two kids, Emily is based in Santa Cruz, California, while offering immersions, retreats and trainings internationally.

Emily has written for several publications online, including Elephant Journal and Rebelle Society, and her podcast, The Inner Shift, can be found on iTunes. Emily’s meditation practices can also be found on Insight Timer. Emily continues to offer yoga workshops at festivals, and leads Kirtan, call and response chanting from the WWW.EMILYPERRYYOGA.COM [email protected]

Bhakti Yoga tradition. She also also been featured in campaigns for Yoga Download, and is a Manduka brand Ambassador.

Emily currently teaches Bhakti Vinyasa, mindfulness and meditation, trains students in her Yoga Teacher Training programs, and leads Kirtan globally. In addition to leading online courses, you can often find Emily on the mat when she’s not out surfing with the kids, hiking in the redwoods with the dog, or at home cooking plant-based meals.

SEVA Seva, or selfless service, is an important part of the yoga practice. Giving back to the community, and supporting organizations that align with the heart of the practice, is important to Emily. Seva might mean service, but for her it is really is an energetic exchange: keeping the cycle of giving and receiving following lifts us all up. And, since we are all connected, the struggles and challenges in the lives of people around the world be come our struggles, too.

The EMILY PERRY YOGA Programs incorporate seva projects into the 200 HR and 300 HR Yoga Teacher Training programs.
