their own literary publishing enterprises

with a good expectation for success.

The Literary Publishing Program

at Emerson College offers the perfect

opportunity to acquire the knowledge

and skill set that will translate your vision

of publishing into reality. This intensive

program will help you navigate through

all of the print and digital options

for your planned publications, as well as

giving you hands-on basics on

how to select, edit, design and market

these editions.

Have you been thinking or

dreaming about starting your own

literary magazine, or founding a press

to publish books? Do you have a

vision of what works you would like

to bring to life? While advances in

technology such as desktop publishing

and the Internet have made it possible

for almost anyone to start a magazine

or a book publishing operation, doing

so is not so easy. Aspiring writers,

editors, and publishers need a solid

foundation in publishing procedures

in order to be able to start and run

The program in Literary Publishing will be held as a one–week (five–day) intensive session June 2–6, 2014. Classroom (or lab) instruction occurs daily for six hours (three–hour morning session, with a lunch break, three–hour afternoon session, and an opportunity for participants and faculty to talk informally at the end of the day’s instruction). Guest speakers will supplement each day’s instruction. Outside of classroom instruction, participants will work on a rough business plan on their press or magazine. Participants who complete the one–week intensive session and submit a rough business plan for their literary magazine or press will earn the Literary Publishing Certificate.

Note: Participants must hold a minimum of a high school diploma (or GED). It is highly recommended that participants motivated to work in literary (small) press publishing hold a bachelor’s degree, or at least be enrolled in an institution of higher learning.
