Learning with iPad
An incredibly responsive Multi-Touch
screen.
A large, high-resolution LED-backlit IPS
display.
A design that’s thin and light enough to take
anywhere.
iPad isn’t just the best device of its kind —
it’s a whole new kind of device. And it’s
poised to change the learning landscape.

Apps for EducationWith iPad, the classroom is always at your fingertips.
Right now at the App Store, there are thousands of apps available to download. Students can track their assignments,
take notes, and study for finals. Teachers can give lessons, monitor progress, and stay organized. And that’s just the beginning.
![Page 4: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
One iPad goes a long way when students are working in a group. It gives them instant access to the information they need to succeed - either through apps, stored data, or the internet.
It's far more dynamic than a laptop - it can be shared, passed around, propped up, gathered around - it quickly becomes a key tool for enabling group work.
Instant Access to Information

iBooks on iPadiBooks on iPad features a vibrant color screen, crisp text,
and a Multi-Touch interface that lets you turn pages with
the flick of a finger.
It’s also a convenient way to browse, sample, and buy
books. Simply download the free iBooks app from the App
Store and buy everything from classics to best sellers from
the built-in iBookstore.
Once you’ve downloaded a book, it appears on your
bookshelf. Just tap it to start reading.
Easy-to-use tools let you keep your place with bookmarks,
highlight text and dates, and make notes.
You can also save, read, and print PDFs — great for class

Safari
Doing research on the web has never
been easier or more intuitive.
That’s because the Multi-Touch screen
lets you use the most natural pointing
device there is: your finger!
Scroll through a page just by flicking up
or down. Or pinch to zoom in or out on a
photo. And the large screen makes
sharing information with your students
— or among themselves — a no-brainer.
![Page 9: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
MailSee and touch your email in ways you never could
before. In landscape, you get a split-screen view
showing both an opened email and the messages
in your inbox.
To see the opened email by itself, turn iPad to
portrait, and the email automatically rotates and
fills the screen.
No matter which way you hold iPad, you can scroll
through your email, compose a new message using
the large onscreen keyboard, or delete messages
with nothing more than a tap and a flick.
![Page 10: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Calendar
iPad makes it easy to stay on schedule by
displaying day, week, month, or list views
of your calendar. You can sync it with
your Torrington email/calendar.
You can see an overview of a whole
month or the details of a single day.
iPad even shows multiple calendars at
once, so you can manage work, personal,
and student schedules at the same time.

Notes
With its expansive display and
large, onscreen keyboard, iPad is
perfect for taking notes in class.
In landscape view, you see not
only a note-taking page but a list
of all your notes.
iPad even circles the current note
in red, so you can see where you
are at a glance.

Maps
Experiencing the world, both near and far,
is a completely new experience on iPad.
Tap to view maps from above with high-
resolution satellite imagery, up close with
street view, or with topography in terrain
view — all using Google Services.
You can even search for nearby locations
and landmarks, then get directions from
your current location.
![Page 13: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
iPad for alliPad comes with a screen reader, support
for playback of closed-captioned content,
and other innovative universal access
features — right out of the box.
There’s no additional software to buy or
install. These features make iPad easier
to use for students who have a vision
impairment, are deaf or hard of hearing,
or have a physical or learning disability.
![Page 14: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Let’s go over the kinds of apps that are available in the App Store for
the iPad…
![Page 15: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Learn about shapes
Mia's playground is a great app for younger children to learn about shape and color.
Children are shown an image (e.g. blue car) and have to find another one in amongst others.
The other game shows the user an outline of a shape and children have to select pieces to make the shape whole.
![Page 16: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Read out loud and share
Toy Story Read-along is a free interactive eBook from Disney
The application can either read the story to you whilst highlighting the words or you can record your own voice reading the story.
Children can record their own voice reading, and either listen back or give it to another pupil who provides peer feedback on it.
![Page 17: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Practice letter formationsiFontMaker allows you to create your own font using your finger. It puts a guideline for the shape on-screen and you 'draw' your letter over the top.
Once you have completed all upper case and lower case it will build it into a font that can be used on the computer in the child's work as an alternative to Comic Sans!
![Page 18: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Art, Music & Creativity
Experience the world of digitalart with apps that can help youteach or learn how to draw, paint, and even play a musicalinstrument. You can also create your own artistic masterpiece.
![Page 19: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Project almost anything for a large group
GoodReader is an app for the iPad that allows the viewing of many different file formats on the iPad itself.
It will also allow them to be projected over the VGA-out connector.
![Page 20: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Speech to Text
Dragon Dictation allows iPad users to quickly and easily convert speech into editable text that can be copied or sent via e-mail.
Great for learners who prefer talking over writing. Improves spelling too.
![Page 21: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Practice math skills
MathBoard is appropriate for all ages from kindergarten (with simple addition and subtraction problems) to elementary school where learning multiplication and division can be a challenge.
You can control the range of numbers you want to work with, the amount of questions you want to answer and even assign a time limit per quiz. MathBoard will make learning math fun.
![Page 22: Emerging Technologies](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022070401/5681369c550346895d9e3b2f/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Now it’s your turn…let’s divide up into groups and each group take a
subject…Math, Reading, Science, etc. and spend some time working
together and investigating apps.
