www.eagleinformer.com | MARCH 2018 29 U ltra Violet or purple is the pantone color for 2018 and it is a fantastic addition to any garden. We love adding purple tones to landscapes; veggies, annuals, perennials, flowering bulbs, pottery, shrubs and trees. The deeper purple tones of perennial heuchera, smoke bush or ninebark make me think of elegance, luxury mixed with a little bit of mystery. Softer purple shades such as a trailing petunia, lavender or an emerging hyacinth bulb evoke spring & romance. Who doesn't need a little elegance, mystery and romance in their backyard?! You could have a beautiful purple toned perennial bed or just tuck in a deep purple shrub or tree to your yard. Consider add a pop of purple with a container planted with shades of deep and lighter purple. There are so many purple toned plants, I can't list them all! Early season purple blooming plants; hyacinth, hellebore (my fav), crocus, chives, tulips, heather, ajuga, lungwort, vinca, phlox, viola and pansy. Mid season purple tones- agastache, campanula, salvia, liatris, caryopteris, lilac, butterfly bush, cistena plum, veronica, joe pye weed, verbena, bee balm, hollyhock, catmint, penstemon, and low or upright stonecrop.. Summer annuals- verbena, lantana, penta, petunia, new zealand flax, potato vine, persian shield & tradescantia. Summer or fall purple tones- black mondo grass, annual purple fountain grass, smoke bush, stonecrop sedum, barberry, ninebark, clematis, hydrangea & weigela. Shades of purple veggies- eggplant, lettuce, kale, rhubarb, kholrabi, asparagus, cabbage, cauliflower, purple cherokee tomato, ruby streaks mustard and bell pepper. Consider adding a contrasting color to your purple infusion; lime green grass, white flowers or silver toned plants really make purple look stunning when paired together. Try a little purple infusion in your containers, perennial & shrub areas of your landscape this season. You neighbors and friends will notice that you have added a little elegance to your landscape. Ultra Violet or purple is the pantone color for 2018 and it is a fantastic addition to any garden. We love adding purple tones to landscapes; veggies, annuals, perennials,

flowering bulbs, pottery, shrubs and trees. The deeper purple tones of perennial heuchera, smoke bush or ninebark make me think of elegance, luxury mixed with a little bit of mystery. Softer purple shades such as a trailing petunia, lavender or an emerging hyacinth bulb evoke spring & romance.
