email : Webview : Counselor Newsletter - April 2019 https://t.e2ma.net/message/gclerb/8dt7xi[4/30/2019 9:58:44 AM] April 2019 Juniors & the ASVAB: In March our juniors had the opportunity to take ASVAB aptitude test. The ASVAB is a comprehensive career exploration and planning program that includes a multiple-aptitude battery test, an interest inventory, and an exercise designed to help students explore the world of work to help them explore which careers they might be suited for. They were given their results in class on April 9th and had their results personally interpreted for them. The career exploration inventory component can be extremely helpful in narrowing down post-high school plans. Please encourage your student to share their results with you! AP Exams: In the coming weeks, we will be administering AP Exams on campus for Chemistry, Calculus, English Literature and Composition, Computer Science Principles, and US History. Student scores will be available online only beginning in July. If your student is taking an exam, please have them keep their AP card (which they received in class this week) and number in a safe location to be able to access the online scores. I am so proud of all of their hard work and perseverance! Juniors & the SAT/ACT: I strongly encourage juniors to plan NOW when they can take the SAT and/or ACT (preferably for the first time by this June --see dates below). By sitting for both exams, students can identify which test they feel more confident with and can target that particular test with concentrated practice over the summer months. This can significantly improve their scores in the fall which colleges may use to determine placement as well as scholarship opportunities. Remember, many colleges may need the result of at least one test on file by December of senior year. If you were not able to make it to College Planning events this year and would like an SAT or ACT test prep book and calendar of upcoming test dates, please see me, and I would be happy to give you a copy! - Ms. Kitselman
