Why are you interested in serving on the Board/s you are applying for?
I have a family member with a severe mental health and developmental disability. I have volunteered forNAMI. I am familiar with many of the governmental agencies overseeing mental health and disabilities atthe county and state level. I am well versed in the services offered by these agencies and in thechallenges that individuals face in accessing these services as well as the constraints imposed by thelimited funds available to the agencies administering the services. While many are served well, the goal isto serve as many as possible with the available resources and to explore creative ways to maximize theimpact of these resources. I am a creative and innovative thinker who seeks to be part of a collaberativeprocess that improves the system without casting blame. I believe that coming to the table with awillingness to find solutions and embrace change is essential. That said, it can take years to changepolicies and mindsets even when the course is clear; sometimes the obstacles are huge and not readilyapparent to the uninitiated. I am passionate about educating people about waste management especiallymanaging the recycling stream so that this resource is more valuable commodity. I believe that educationin the school system should be an integral piece of this process. It is complicated and very few individualsfully understand the reasons that some items are recyclable and others are not
