Summary

Purpose

• Inform about the existence of the EM Carpool Club for EM employees & contractors only

Scope

• EM Carpool Club for EM employees & contractors only

Incentive

• Facilitates matching of EM employees interested to carpool with colleagues having similar commutes

• Cost reduction for employees (fuel, maintenance, toll, parking)

• Potential cost reduction for EM (taxi optimization)

• Contributes to Reducing road congestion, improves energy efficiency and lowers the Co2 footprint

• Facilitates social networking within the company potentially across different departments in an informal manner

Timing

• Find volunteers to further support / promote the EM Carpool Club in 2011

• Implement LPS on car pooling

• Implement Car pool procedures where participants exchange contact information prior

Privacy• Sharing of private data (home address / private phone numbers)

• Disclaimer needs to be acknowledged accepting to share to use private information for the car pool purpose

• Contractual clause with software company that private data needs to be protected and can not be shared.

• Select a professional party also servicing other companies

• Advise in application not to share your home address, but instead a certain pick up location and work phone numbers

• User submits on-line Trip Registration form including:

• origin and destination addresses (partial address logic)

• contact information

• EM e-mail address required but private until used to contact other users

• telephone numbers / SMS optional

• schedule

• additional descriptive information

• desired user id (uniqueness check) and password

• e-mail (is validated and verified using confirmation code and link)

• User is shown match list with user-adjustable search controls

• User contacts matched commuters via e-mail, telephone or SMS

Bcarpoolworld uses an data model and simplified spherical trigonometry to provide fast and accurate matches with high precision distance computations.

Straight-line geometry is more appropriate for carpool matching than street-wise navigation because walking distances for B and D are much more relevant indicators of proximity than automobile navigational distance, especially when considering neighborhood parks, one-way streets, or urban pedestrian areas.
