SELF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
PREPARATION• Turn off the power switch.• Shift the bobbin winder spindle to the left.• Raise the feed dog.• Shift the slide volume to the left.• Remove the presser foot and raise the presser foot lifter.• Turn the handwheel toward you to raise the needle to its highest position.• Connect the foot controller to the machine.
NOTE• Be careful: The sewing machine may start running in its own while in test mode.• Turn off the power switch before replacing any parts.• Repeat the diagnostic test until the problems has been resolved.• You can skip steps in the diagnostic procedure and go directly to the test you want to
perform.• (Enter Self-Diagnostic mode, then press the needle up/down button until the step number
of the required test is indicated).
PRELIMINARY TEST:Turn on the power switch. If any of following problems occur, take the recommended actions inthe order they are shown.
The machine does not respond when the power switch is turned on.1. Check each connector connection.2. Replace the machine socket.3. Replace the A-board.4. Replace the machine socket.5. Replace the power transformer.The sewing machine light does not light up.1. Replace the lamp.2. Replace the A-board.

REAR COVER
TO REMOVE1. Remove the face cover, top cover, belt cover and bed cover. (See pages 8, 9 and 10.)2. Loosen the setscrews (A), (B), (C) and (D).2. Remove the cap, setscrew (E) and set screw (F).3. Remove the rear cover while pulling it toward you and pushing it to the left.4. (Unhook the projection (G) and twist the rear the cover to clear the presser bar lifter area.)
TO ATTACH1. Reverse this procedure.

NEEDLE POSITION
When straight stitch (----) is selected, needle should be in the middle of needle plate hole.When the machine is set for maximum zigzag width, the clearance between needle at the left andright should be minimum 0.2 mm.
1. Remove the face plate.2. Turn on the power switch.3. Select pattern No.1 (straight stitch), and check the needle drop.4. Select pattern No.2 (simple zigzag) and check the clearance between needle and needle plate
at the left and right sides.5. Loosen the setscrew (A) and turn the eccentric pin to adjust the needle drop.6. Tighten the setscrew (A).7. Attach the face plate.

NEEDLE BAR HEIGHT
The distance between the upper edge of needle eye and the tip of the hook should be in the rangeof 1.6-2.0 mm when the tip of hook meets the right side of the needle in ascending travel of needlefrom its left and lowest position.
2. Remove the needle plate and bobbin holder.3. Turn on the power switch.4. Select the pattern No. 2 (simple zigzag). (maximum zigzag width)5. Turn the handwheel toward you until the tip of hook meets the right side of the needle.6. Loosen the setscrew (A).7. Adjust the height of the needle bar by moving the needle bar upward or downward without
turning it. (Make sure that the needle setting groove of the needle bar is in the front).8. Tighten the setscrew (A).9. Insert the bobbin holder, then attach the needle plate.

NEEDLE TO SHUTTLE TIMING
When the machine is set for the straight stitch pattern No.2 (left needle position), the amountof ascending travel of the needle bar between its lowest position at the left needle drop andthe position where the tip of the hook meets the right side of the needle should be 3.25-3.55mm.
1. Remove the needle plate and bobbin holder.2. Turn on the power switch, select the straight stitch pattern No. 2 ( left needle position).3. Remove the bed cover.4. Turn the handwheel toward you, and set the needle bar at the lowest position.5. Loosen the setscrews on the lower shaft timing gear.6. Raise the needle bar between 3.25-3.55 mm from the lowest position of the needle bar.7. Turn the lower shaft timing gear until the tip of hook meets with the right side of needle.8. Tighten the set screws on lower shaft timing gear.9. Attach the bed cover, bobbin holder and needle plate.

CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT
The clearance between the needle and the point of hook should be –0.1 to +0.05 mm.
PREPARATION:1. Remove the needle plate, bobbin holder, and bed cover, and replace the needle with the test
pin (D).2. Turn the power switch on, and select pattern No.2 (simple zigzag). (maximum zigzag width)
ADJUSTMENT1. Loosen the screws (A), (B), (C), then slightly tighten the hinge screw (C).2. Turn the handwheel toward you, and adjust the clearance between the master needle and the
point of the hook in the left and right needle position to –0.1 to +0.05 mm by moving the hookset plate (E) up or down.
3. Tighten the setscrews (A), (B), (C).4. Check the backlash of the hook drive, gear and lower shaft gear. If the backlash is too great or
not enough, adjust the backlash in accordance with "to adjust the backlash of hook drive gearand lower shaft gear".
5. Attach the bed cover, needle plate and bobbin holder, and remove the master needle.

BACKLASH (LOWER SHAFT GEAR)
TO CHECK1. Turn the power switch off.2. Remove the needle plate and bobbin holder.3. Jog the hook race back and forth to check rotary play. The standard play should be 0.8 mm
(0.3") or less when the hook point is within the feed dog width. If play exceeds 0.8 mm, adjustas follows.
ADJUSTMENT1. Remove the bed cover and loosen the setscrew (C).2. Turn the lower shaft bushing (D) (eccentric), in the direction "E" when the1. play at shuttle hook tip is too small.2. Turn the lower shaft bushing (D) (eccentric), in the direction "F" when the play at shuttle hook
tip is too large.3. Tighten setscrew (C) securely after adjustment.

FEED DOG HEIGHT
The highest position of the feed dog should be between 0.80 to 0.90 mm from the surface of theneedle plate when the pressure dial is set at "3" and the presser foot is lowered.
1. Set the pressure dial at "3" and lower the presser foot.2. Turn on the power switch.3. Remove the bed cover.4. Turn the handwheel toward you to set the feed dog at the highest position.5. Loosen the setscrew (A) and nut (B).6. Adjust the feed dog height by turning the adjusting screw (C).7. Tighten the nut (B) and setscrew (A).

ZIGZAG SYNCHRONIZATION
The needle should start to swing between 6.3 to 7.5 mm above the surface of the needle platewhen the machine is set for zigzag stitching.
1. Remove the top cover (see page 8).2. Turn on the power switch, select the pattern No. 2 and set the machine at the maximum zigzag
width.3. Turn the handwheel toward you slowly with your hand until the needle start to swing. Loosen
the setscrew and turn the upper shaft shield plate in the direction of.4. A if the swing point is higher than 7.5 mm.5. B if the swing point is lower than 6.3 mm.6. Push the upper shaft shield plate as close as possible to the left. (It should not touch the upper
shaft sensor).7. Check the swing point by turning the handwheel, then tighten the setscrew.8. Attach the top cover.

STRETCH STITCH FEED BALANCE
TO CHECKWhen a stretch pattern is sewn with the feed balancing dial (C) set at the standard settingmark '' 4 '', the pattern should be as indicated with the '' O '' mark in the following figure. Ifnot (if there is no balance between forward feeding and backward feeding), Then make anadjustment as follows.
ADJUSTMENT
1. Turn the power switch on, and select pattern No. 8 ( ).2. Set the slit of the feed balancing dial (C) at the standard setting mark '' 4 '' on the front cover.3. Put the paper between the foot and feed dog and lower the presser bar lifter.4. Turn the handwheel, and check the needle position of '' A '' and '' B ''.5. Remove base cap ( D ).6. When A>B, turn the adjusting screw ( E ) in the direction of '' F ''.7. When A<B, turn the adjusting screw ( E ) in the direction of " G ''.8. Attach the base cap ( D ).

UPPER THREAD TENSION
The upper thread tension should be between 75–90g when pulling the thread (size 50 cottonthread) in the direction of "C" with the tension dial at "3". (The presser foot should be lowered).
1. Set the thread tension at "3".2. Remove the face plate3. Adjust the thread tension by turning the screw D in the direction of:
A to reduce the tensionB to increase the tension.
4. Attach the face plate.

BUTTONHOLE
TO ADJUST THE BUTTONHOLE LEVER GUIDE1. Set the machine in buttonhole sensor adjusting mode. (See below, The LED should display "H"
or "L".)2. Remove the face cover.3. Lower the buttonhole lever. Loosen the setscrew (A) and position the buttonhole lever guide so
the LED displays "L".4. Tighten setscrew (A).
TO ADJUST THE BUTTONHOLE SENSOR POSITION:1. Install the buttonhole foot (R).2. Lower the buttonhole lever to its lowest position, and insert a 1.6 mm clearance gauge.3. Turn the adjusting screw to the left until the LED display changes from "L" to "H".4. Next, turn the adjusting screw to the right until the LED display changes from " H" to "L".5. Check the LED. When the clearance of buttonhole foot is 1.4 mm, the LED displays "H"; when
the clearance is 1.8 mm, the LED displays "L".6. Turn off the power switch.7. Install the face plate.NoteIf there is any lint in the buttonhole sensor slit, clean out with a swab.

PRESSER BAR HEIGHT AND ALIGNMENT
TO CHECK:1. Raise the presser foot lever (B).2. The distance between the zigzag foot (A) and the needle plate (C) should be 6.0 mm (0.24''). If
the height is greater or less than 6 mm (0.24''), adjust as follows.
ADJUSTMENT:1. Remove the face cover (see page 8).2. Raise the presser foot lever (B) and loosen the screw (D) on the presser bar holder (E).3. Adjust the distance between the zigzag foot (A) and the needle plate (C) to 6.0 mm (0.24'')4. Tighten the screw (D) securely.5. Attach the face cover.
Note: When you tighten the screw (D), make sure that both sides of the zigzag foot (A) are parallel.

THREADER PLATE
If the hook of the threader plate is damaged, change or adjust the part as follows:
TO REMOVE:1. Push down the needle threader knob and pull the needle threader plate (A) down to remove it
(See Fig.1).2. To install the needle threader plate, line the groove up with the pin (B) and push it up to snap
fit.
1. To adjust the threader plate position:2. If the hook on the threader plate touches the left or right side of the needle guide, loosen
setscrew (C) and adjust the hook position (Fig.2).3. If the hook on the threader plate touches the top or bottom side of the needle guide, loosen
setscrew (D) and adjust the hook position (Fig.3).

REPLACING THE FUSETO REMOVE:1. Remove the front cover (See page 11).2. Remove the four setscrews and lift off the cover on A-board.3. Remove the fuse (Pry it out with a screwdriver).TO INSTALL:4. Follow the above procedure in reverse.

TO REMOVE:1. Remove the A-board (See page 25).2. Remove the two setscrews and remove the transformer.
TO INSTALL:1. To install the transformer, follow the above procedure in reverse.
NOTEPlace the rear of the transformer on the transformer support.Slide the two transformer wire tubes to the side of transformer and secure them to the zigzagstepping motor wire so they will not come in contact with any moving parts.

MACHINE SOCKET
TO REMOVE:1. Remove the front cover (See page11).2. Remove the two connectors from the A-board.3. Remove the 2 setscrews (B) and remove the machine socket.
TO INSTALL:1. To install the machine socket, follow the above procedure in reverse.
NOTEPull out the cord in front of the arm to prevent it from contacting with the lower shaft or theremoving parts, and secure the feed motor cord with a binder.

K-BOARD AND F-BOARD
K-BOARD
TO REMOVE:1. 1.Remove the front cover (See page 11).2. Disconnect the F-board connector.3. Remove the 7 setscrews (A) and remove the printed circuit K-board.
TO ATTACH:1. To attach the board "K", follow the above procedure in reverse.NoteEnsure to insert the projection of the slide volume into the forked slide knob.
F-BOARD
TO REMOVE:1. Remove the front cover (See page 11).2. Pull out the connector from the K-board.3. Remove the 2 setscrews (B) and remove the isolated paper and the F-board.TO ATTACH:1. To install the F-board, follow the above procedure in reverse.

DRIVING MOTOR (DC MOTOR)
TO REMOVE1. Remove the front cover (see page 11).2. Remove the belt.3. Pull out the motor connector from the A-board.4. Remove screws (A) and (B).5. Take off the driving motor.
TO ATTACH1. Set the motor in machine and replace screws (A) and (B).2. Snap the motor connector into the connector post (E) on the A-board.3. Replace the motor belt.4. Move the motor mounting bracket (C) up and down while applying approximately 300 grams
pressure in the middle of the belt, it should deflect 7 to 9 mm when set properly.5. Tighten screws (A) and (B).6. Replace the belt and front cover.

BUTTONHOLE SENSOR
TO REMOVE1. Remove the face and front cover (see page 8 and 11).2. Remove screw (A), then remove the buttonhole sensor (B) from the sensor set plate (C).3. Pull out the connector of buttonhole sensor unit (D) from the A-board.4. Pull out the cord of buttonhole sensor unit from the cord guide (E), Then remove the buttonhole
sensor unit.
TO ATTACH1. Attach the buttonhole sensor (B) on to the sensor set plate (C) with screw (A) lightly.1. Slide the buttonhole sensor (B) back and forth slightly and make sure it doesn't touch the
buttonhole shield plate (F). (See illustration).2. Tighten the screw (A) firmly.2. Pass the cord as illustrated, and attach the front cover.3. After replacing the buttonhole sensor, sew a few buttonholes.4. If something is abnormal, adjust the "Buttonhole lever" (See page 22).

UPPER SHAFT SENSOR
TO REMOVE:1. Remove the front cover (See page 11).2. Remove the 2 setscrews (A) and remove the A-board.3. Remove the setscrew (B) and slide the upper shaft shield plate to the left.4. Remove the 2 setscrew (C) and remove the upper shaft sensor (P-board).
TO ATTACH:1. To attach the upper shaft sensor, follow the above procedure in reverse.NoteCheck the "ZIGZAG SYNCHRONIZATION" (See page 19) after attaching the upper shaft shieldplate.
