The development is named after the two Ellison brothers who

were among many villagers who lost their lives in the two World

Wars. This is just one of many glimpses into the history you’ll find

in Hunsdon – from the 500 year old village hall to Hunsdon House,

once owned by Henry VIII.

From the disused airfi eld close to Ellison Park pilots fl ew to support

Lancaster Bombers in the Dambusters Raid. Today, the area off ers

more peaceful activities for the whole family.

For those who want to get close to nature there’s Thorley Wash,

near Bishop’s Stortford, a 42 acre Site of Special Scientifi c Interest

noted for its fl ora and fauna. The Ventura Wildlife Park, six miles to

the west, is an interactive nature park with a wide range of exotic

species. While the River Lee Country Park, a wonderful 1,000 acre

natural playground, off ers wildlife, sailing, white water raft ing as

well as wonderful walks and more. If you like a dash of culture

with your fresh air, you’ll appreciate the Henry Moore Foundation,

Whether you choose private or state education for your child

there are a wide range of excellent schools in the area. A short

walk away in the village itself is the award winning Hunsdon JMI

School, while a quick car journey takes you to St Andrews and

Wareside primary schools.

There are also a large number of secondary schools nearby,

many with bus services from the village. The highly recommended

single-sex secondary schools of Presdale (girls) and Richard Hale

(boys) offer co-educational sixth forms and incorporate school bus

services from the village.

For private education, the nearest schools are St Nicholas School,

based in the beautiful Hillingdon House in Harlow, and

St Edmund's College, set in 440 acres in Ware.

Founded in 1862, the prestigious and independent Haileybury

and Imperial Service College in Hertford Heath offers boarding

school opportunities for boys and girls aged 11 – 18.

With so much to do on the doorstep it would be tempting to stay firmly put at Ellison Park.

FURTHER AFIELD IN A MATTER OF MINUTES

However, when you do decide to venture further you can accomplish

it with exceptional ease.

From St Margarets train station, London is just a 41 minute train journey

to Liverpool Street station and you can be in the West End within around

an hour from leaving your front door. This takes all the hard work out of

seeing shows and major events – making them an evening out rather

than a weekend away.

If you fancy jetting off somewhere even more relaxing, then Stansted is a

mere half an hour down the road and Heathrow an hour and half around the

M25 – both within striking distance of an early flight without an overnight

stop beforehand.

Of course, for travelling anywhere in the UK, the motorway network is close

by with the M11 providing access to the M25 and London to the south, and

the A1 taking you to Cambridge in just half an hour to the north.
