Bethel School District partici-pates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast pro-grams sponsored by the USDA. Breakfast and lunch are available to qualifying students at no cost or a reduced price.

For your convenience, the appli-cation for Free and Reduced Priced meals for 2011/2012 school year may now be done at Bethel website. Only one application per family. HSPE ~ High School Proficiency Exam March 13 –14 ~~~ Writing

There will be no make-ups for missed tests. Students are only per-mitted to take tests on the assigned days and they must be on time. Please remember all students must pass the Reading and writing portions of the HSPE in order to earn a high school diploma. No habrá recuperación para las pruebas perdidas. The Greek tragedy, AGAMEMNON, will be preformed by the drama
students at Spanaway Junior High School at 7pm on March 29 in the com-mons. Directed by Charmee Beauclaire who is the ELL teacher at SJH. AGAMEMNON tells the story of the end of the Trojan War after 10
long years and the return of Agamemnon to his palace. But, all is not well in the House of Atreum! Come see this play and support the theatre arts in Bethel!

Homework Requests
If your student is out more than three days you should request your student’s homework through the office. Please pro-vide 24-hours notice in order for the teach-ers and staff enough time to complete your request. The math HSPE has been replaced with an end-of-course
assessment. More information regarding testing time
and schedules will be announced after the first of the
year.

scheduling conflicts. Please remember every student

The ELL program is also known as ESL. The program is designed to improve each student’s ability to speak, write, listen, and read English. The district currently has three elementary schools (Evergreen, Frederickson, and Rocky Ridge) a Junior high (Spanaway Jr. High) and a high school (Spanaway Lake High School) that provide ELL services.

Student Transfer requests for
2012-2013 The deadline for accepting
student transfer applications for the 2012-
2013 school year will be February 10 for
grades 7 to 12 and April 20 for grades K to
6. Requests received after the deadlines may
not be considered until the district receives actual enrollment counts in September. A
student transfer request form may be obtained from the district office or downloaded from the district’s
website.
Notification letters will be mailed by March
30 (secondary) or May 18 (elementary). Ap-
proval or denial of transfer requests will be
based on established criteria outlined in board policy and procedure 3131 and 3141
for nonresidents. Parents will provide trans-portation for students who voluntarily attend
a school outside their attendance area. For

Students need to attend school everyday if our staff is to do the best job of educating our stu-dents. Good attendance is also a state law! (Compulsory School Attendance Act RCW 28A.225)
Parents have a responsibility to make sure their children are in school on time as required by RCW 28A.225.010.
Students having five or more unexcused ab-sences in a month or 10 total, may be referred to the Juvenile Justice System (BECCA LAW).
All students are expected to attend class on time (Bethel School District Board Policy #5340-10).
Attendance laws cover all children from Kin-dergarten through 12th grade.
The exceptions to this are the following: Personal illness Personal injury Quarantine Death in the family Professional appointments Family emergency Religious observance, when requested by a student’s parent/guardian
Participation in authorized school related activities and opportunities of extraordinary educational value outside of school can also be excused by writ-ten notice if they are pre-arranged with the princi-pal.
