The Danes in Kimballton have been dancing Danish Folk Dances for over 100 years. Folk Dances are traditional dances of a country which have evolved naturally from everyday activities of people. Folk Dancing began as a fun way to get together. It is in this spirit that the art of folk dancing was kept alive through the Immanuel Lutheran Church and then through the many celebrations in Kimballton, where Danish Folk Dancers performed.

Today, the Danes are still dancing, but now at Tivoli Fest in Elk Horn. Young people are asking to dance! We hope everyone involved will keep the spirit alive and have a great time dancing Danish Folk Dances. A big thanks to all who participate.

denmarK tv documentary hIghlIghtIng the danISh vIllageSIn 2013, two Danish filmmakers Anders Birch and Jakob Vølver came to our Danish Village of Elk Horn, Iowa to find what all of Danishness was all about. After 150 hours of filming, they painstakingly put together a one hour documentary called, in English, “Denmark on the Prairie.” In March of 2014, the second film was aired called “Denmark on the Prairie Return to Elk Horn”. It all started because EHK Alumni Kyle Jensen visited with a Danish Journalist in Kansas City and boasted of his hometown. Because of the impact an Alumni can make on their hometown, the Tivoli Fest Committee elected Kyle Jensen to be our Parade Grand Marshal!
