Imagine For Design # 1

• Idea #1 Dark cloth for the bottom\absorbs heat good-1 sheet. Cotton balls for a low impact score-2 cups.

• Our materials are dark cloth and cotton balls.

• We need 1 unit of cloth and 2 units of cotton balls.

• Our advantage of this idea is that the cloth will absorb all the heat and be a good insulator.

• Our disadvantages of this idea is that the other heat that the cloth doesn't absorb will bounce of the cotton balls won't absorb it and will bounce out.

Imagine For Design #1

• Idea #2 Light colored cloth for the sides-1 unit. Colored shredded foam for good insulation-2 units.

• Our materials are light colored cloth and shredded colored foam.

• We need 2 units of colored foam and 1 unit of light cloth.

• The advantage is that the light cloth will bounce of and the foam will absorb it all.

• The disadvantage is the foam won't absorb all of it and let some of it out.

Create For Design #2

• Our heat score is our solar oven maximum temperature subtracted from the control oven 56°C-55°C= 1°C.

• Our time score is the number of minutes it took to cool down which was 4 minutes.

• Our total impact score was 9 points.

• Our total solar oven score is -4 points.

Improve For Design #1

• The total score for our solar oven is -4 points .

• The parts of our solar oven design that work well were our dark cloth because it absorbed some heat.

• The parts of our solar oven design that didn't work well were our cotton balls because they didn't absorb any heat.

• We are going to try to improve our heat score by getting dark foam and cloth.

• We will improve our heat score by shredding the two sheets of foam for more insulation, and light cloth because it will reflect the heat and make the foam absorb the heat.

• Our heat score is our solar oven maximum temperature subtracted from the control oven:40-41=-1.

• Our time score was the number of minutes it took to cool dawn which was 4 minutes.

• Our total impact score was 10 points. Our new total score for the solar oven is -7.

Reflection

• Our improved design didn't work because the black and green foam wasn't able to insulate the heat very well and most the heat got out. We know this because our temperature dropped quickly when cooling in the shade.

• If we could improve again, we would get some newspaper and put it on the sides and a little on the bottom (2 sheets). We would get 1sheet of felt for the rest of the bottom. We'll get rid of the black foam and green foam because they were a poor insulation because we did not put them in the right spots in our solar oven.
