My name is Elena Giral, and I am a 24 years old spanish architect looking forward to starting my professional career.

I am a very active and open minded person totally ready to take on new challenges and risks.

I am used to work in a multicultural-multidisciplinar ambience. I have experience working on group dynamics and long term projects and can handle pressure and deadlines with efficiency. I took part on several leadership trainings. I have also worked on the fields of Public Relations, Promotion and Media coordinating groups of people for an international organisation.

Apart from architecture my biggest passion is traveling as a way of both enjoying and learning. I love meeting people from different cultures and enjoy their different points of view. Both with University and on my own I've traveled to almost 30 different countries.

I can speak 3 languages fluently and I am learning a fourth.

The project consisted on a very complex infrastructure that would provide food, clothing housing and social services to those in need. The project was developed from the first stages of the design and concept until the structural calculum, instalations (water, gas, electricity etc ) and budgeting.

The building is conceived in three different scales.The Industrial tissue (the hard line, topography). The City (open space, relations) and The Domestic Space (light pieces, privacy)

The building is thought as a city by itself. A multi-purpose space, flexible and constantly changing. It adapts to the needs of its users on each moment.

It works as a covered street, the real space for relations, where all the basic needs should take place. The hard line hosts the kitchens, warehouses etc. The light boxes include attention services, housing and workshops.

The exterior is used as a reintegration space

El proyecto surge de un profundo anlisis del programa, a partir del cual se entienden las nece-sidades tan complejas a las que nos enfrentamos. De esta forma se plantea un edificio separado de cualquier formalismo, en el que el espacio, la plasticidad de los materiales y la luz, sean la arquitectura en si mismos.

El edificio tiene presentes las tres escalas fundamentales de forma diferenciable: Lo industrial, la lnea dura, la topografa.La ciudad, el espacio abierto y de relacinLo domstico, las piezas ligeras, los tamices de privacidad

Se fomenta una apropiacin del espacio por parte del individuo, no encerrando ms que aquello que es necesario. Se entiende que unos usuarios de estas caractersticas necesitan espacios libres y abiertos.

HABITAR LA CALLE

LA IMPORTANCIA DEL ESPACIO INTERSTICIAL COMO LUGAR DE RELACIN DONDE SE PRODUCE LA INTERACCIN Y LAS ACTIVI-DADES DE LA COMUNIDAD.

El edificio funciona como una ciudad, con una calle de relacin, una lnea dura que acoge los servicios; la calle cubierta, verdadero espacio de proyecto; y unas cajas ligeras, que albergan los espacios que requieren privacidad.

Es necesario considerar que en la actualidad el abanico de personas sin hogar o que requieren la ayuda de los servicios sociales es muy amplio, y recoge a un gran nmero de infividuos en muchas situaciones diferentes. La iniciativa rethinkhomeless-ness trata de hacer visible esta situacin.

El edificio trata de alejarse de formalismos preconcebidos y de cualquier restriccin del programa por la forma.

Para el desarrollo de los espacios se estudia el concepto del vaco y el espacio intersticial, como espacio de relacin y tensin.

Por otra parte se estudia en profundidad el uso de la retcula como organizador que acoge las formas libres.

De la suma de ambos conceptos se obtiene un eficicio ordenado y modulado pero alejado de caprichos formales ni dificultades constructivas

TRES MUNDOS DEFINIDOS Y EN RELACIN

Se proyecta un espacio polivalente, flexible y mutable en constante proceso de cambio. Se debe adaptar a las necesidades tan variadas de los diferentes usuarios y momentos.Este se concibe como una calle cubierta, que acta como verdadero lugar de relacin. En ella se sita el comedor, los talleres de costura, mesas de trabajo o espacios de lectura y prensa..

LA PREFABRICACIN, LAS CAJAS LIGERAS

El tercer orden son las cajas de madera, que se tratan de elementos prefabricados realizados ntegramente en madera, que alojan los espacios de mayor privacidad. Su interior se organiza mediante un sistema modular de armarios prefabricados que se repite como leitmotiv en toda esta parte del proyecto. Estos elementos se conciben con el objeto de resolver todas las necesidades internas de almacenamiento, divisiones, etc de una forma sencilla y rpida.

Este mdulo se concibe a partir de la unidad mnima de habitacin, que se divide o multiplica para crear bandas de armarios o bien clulas habitacionales. Su disposicin refuerza la unidad de las cajas, tomando todas la misma trama cintica y modular.

Todas ellas tienen una piel de lamas de madera, ideada como mecanismo de filtro, que permite la entrada de luz limitando las vistas de fuera a dentro. Adems permiten un control solar que aumenta la eficiencia energtica.

LA RELACIN CON EL EXTERIOR

El exterior del edificio se entiende como una pro-longacin de la calle, y por tanto sigue teniendo un carcter verstil y cambiante, a la vez que se plantea como una herramienta ms del proceso de reinsercin y aprendizaje de los usuarios del centro.

No se plantea una superficie desmedida de hi-erba ni un jardn con un alto costo de manten-imiento. Se alternan zonas de huertas mantenidas por los usuarios como parte del programa junto con reas de maleza semi salvaje, con especies autctonas que requieren un cuidado bajo y se alternan estacionalmente.

La simbologa representa los diferentes tipos de plantas siendoaromticas, arbustos, de tallo alto, plantas de gran floracin, plantasde bayas, arbustos de hoja perenne sin floracin y plantas de grantamao.

Las especies ms adecuadas para la adaptacin y bajomantenimiento son- Azaleas (Rhododendron nudiflorum)- Santolina (Santolina chamaecyparissus)- Tomillo Limn (Thymus vulgaris)- Lavanda (Lavandula dentata)- Romero (Rosmarinus officinalis)- Hierba Luisa - Verbena de las Indias (Aloysia citriodora)- Genista (Genista tinctoria)- Jara (Cistus ladanifer)

The building is placed in one of the most important mountain ranges of Spain. Therefor, the project was concieved with the intention to cause the minimum damage on the landscape.

A regular plan based on the traditional farming ensembles generates two pa-tios to separate the single living units from the duplex.

The clean concrete skin lets the land-scape embrace the building and be the main focus for those inside of it.

The aim of the project was to give mountain climbers a centre to practice sports and hold meetings, conferences and expositions related to it.

The building is conceived as a monument to the mountain, it is divided in four volumes that create an interior street that comunicates the sides of the building generating a new meeting point. It is a new square that contributes to the town as a public space.

The shape of its architectural plan responds to the studio of visuals of its surrounding. It focuses the main monuments, like the local church and specially the main peaks, that stick out on top .

The Campus was the combination of 13 different faculties of Paris-Sor-bonne University adding student resi-dences, a library, a congress centre, a research centre and sport facilities.

Its role was also to develop the north-ern area of Paris, nowadays considered marginated and outdated.

The main idea was to guarrantee the permeability of the campus by elevat-ing the buildings and making them light and transparent on its lower floor.

The four buildings dedicated to lodge-ment embrace the two university blocks.

The centre of the campus is dedi-cated to the research, library and the congress centre, with a representative shape with its emerging auditoriums.

The housing is conceived under the Japanese concept of the engawa, an exterior corridor that serves as a com-mon area to the students.

The renovation of the museum consisted on an extension that should contain some of the most important and dramatic pieces of wooden religious sculpture in Spain, and also a replica museum with an enormous amount of reproductions of emblematic historical pieces.

The low entrance generates a public square with the museum's cafeteria, bringing the city area back to life

The main volume consisted is a concrete piece, clean and neat in order to put all the attention over the pieces on exposition.

Its flat roof lays over +2m section concrete beams and opens a longitudinal skylight that illuminates the room with a dramatic and concentrated light.

The rest of the building surrounds an ancient palace, preserving its original walls and giving it back its importance.

Placing a building in such a paradigmatic environment without stealing the importance of the landscape was the most important clue in this project.

With that purpose the building is buried in two of its three levels. It opens towards its interior, with luminous patios that organize the plan at the same time.

The other way to distribute the plan are the wooden boxes that contain the services and some of the uses, changing its position on each floor.

The program is also divided in three blocks, a central one for reception, administration and parking, a second one for the public spaces (library, restaurant and spa) and a third one, open to the sea with the rooms. VIEW OF THE SPA LEVEL

VII HISPALYT COMPETITION: BuILDING WITH CERAMICSExPOSITION BuILDING ON RADAS ARCHEOLOGICAL SITEYEAR:2013 . Team with: Carolina Heisig

The competition consisted on designing a multi-use space in an archeological site near the town of Rada, Spain.

The building should include a small museum, space for searchers and an area for groups of visitors with a small eating area.

Our main aim was to maintain all the attention on the archeological remains and to make a very light building integrated with the landscape.

We also included a series of platforms to generate a itinerary and provide elevated positions over the less accessible parts.

The building is made with concrete and wood and remains open, so the nature, specially the wind, can come in. The uses that need to be enclosed are placed in the interior boxes.

Behind the radicalism of this statement lies something crucial for the future of architecture. Architecture as a discipline should no longer think in terms of objects.

Walls, facades, structures, are only modalities of architecture, but never its finality. Design comes after. After what? After situations. Architects deal with situations.

Sometimes, we make architecture disappear. We make it melt within the territory, blurring the lines between architecture and landscape, between physicality and immateriality, between presence and absence.

nowadays its fundamental that work-spaces are nice environments, where people can feel good about them-selves and what surrounds them. There are not two equal people, and so there are not two equal offices.

It is necessary that spaces are de-signed to provide a great freedom, adapting to particular needs not only for companies but also for each person and each moment.

Steelcase sets out. Is it possible to create a working space where employees would leave healthier than when they arrived. Of course, our answer is yes.

Push.it proposes a versatile working ambience, adjustable and changing. The user chooses the space and con-figurates it according to his needs. Not once, but as many times as needed during the day.

This generates two main advantages: First, it allows to create new spaces where there were none, and enables them to be as one desires. Second, they foster movement and relations among people, who share the space and its configuration. Each individual changes position during the day, changes the mood, and changes the tasks. SCHINDLER COMPETITION 2014FISSuRES AND STITCHES ETSA - VALLADOLID YEAR:2014 Team with: Maria Cantalapiedra

The project consists on an intervention in four housing blocs from the 60s. It turns out as a solution for the problems that come from the high density of the neighbourhood and the bad relation between spaces, both public of built.

The proposal consists on two mecha-nisms: one crack through the centre of the plot, and a plattform on the southern part. It tries to improve the accesibility and communications by generating quality spaces that dy-namize, reactivate and give character to the place, composed nowadays by a quite aged population.

The opened fissure is understood as a way to improve the access to all the plot, opening public spaces and al-lowing it to brathe. The mechanism is double, including also new vertical co-munication in the sides of the building, enriching the itineraries.

The houses are renovated and im-proved, increasing the surface of the smallest ones and changing the dispo-sition to a more open one. Also patios are opened to increase the ammount of light in the interior.

To mantain the number of houses, a new block is built on the side of the plot using a steel structure and wooden passarels.

STREET MARkET STALLS FOR THE RENOVATION PROJECT OF EL VAL MARkETVALLADOLIDYEAR:2014Team with: Maria Cantalapiedra

In the context of the competition for the renovation of the market that starts in October 2014, one of the participating building firms wanted to complete their proposal with an outdoor temporary market.

The stalls are configurated with wooden precast pieces, which reduces both its complexityand its costs.

The sistem is designed to be assembled without any tools or aditional pieces, using only pieces that fit together or fold, like a 3D puzzle.

It is not necessary to use screws or fixing elements other than the pieces. The set up can be made with only two or three people and its faster than any other common stall.

GEODESIC DOME: RECYCLING A LIVING SPACE, ETSA - VALLADOLID YEAR:2013

The school of architecture was in deep need of a representative space that could be used by students for exposi-tions, meetings or different purposes.

A group of students among the or-ganisers of ConstruARQ Fair decided to create a 1:1 structure that would fill the basement hall with life again.

We studied the geodesic domes and created various prototypes on 1:10 scale.

It was finally built with recycled ma-terials : PVC tubes of 5mm for the bars and 8mm for the joining pieces together with plastic flanges. We also built a smaller one made of wood, for advertisements and other purposes.

nowadays it's become a very active space where a live concert is held once a week and also student meet-ings. When there's nothing scheduled it can be used as a working space or just to hang out.

As a work for the Optional Subject ''Garden II'' we had to create a video on the theme ''Garden and time''.

We decided to represent the garden based on the german romantic gardens of Caspar David Friedrich. The idea of the ruins and how nature takes its place and embraces them.

In the video we use the concept of time with different action speed and differ-ent scenes related in parallel times.

We did took care of the shooting, the performance and the video editing.
