Lessons Learned

Delivery of Materials All materials will be in your school by October 1st. Manuals need to be shared with teachers 24 hours prior

to the assessment to: Ensure directions for administration are clear Gather necessary materials needed to administer test

Printing Issues (graphics, etc.) Length and Sessions

2nd Grade Math=30 questions (2 sessions optional) Stop signs have been included

Lessons Learned

Constructed Response Kindergarten will be the only grade with constructed

response items (CCSS require performance based tasks).

Second Grade Bubbling See “Practice for Completing Scan Sheets K-2”

Tutorials New Feature: On the DAT website, all tutorials are

available in a Zip Drive so you can download them directly.

“Resources for Elementary Test Chairpersons” Will include Insight tutorials, Testing Documents, and

General Resources for Elementary Test Administrators.

Insight and Inform

Will be addressed in Break-Out Session Tests will be published a week in advance

(September 30) to allow for printing of scan sheets prior to testing window opening.

Couple questions you may have… Why are there still scans that have been sitting

in the queue? On the grade screen, provide the ID number so

that the developer can resubmit. Why are students appearing then reappearing?

9

Page 10: ELEMENTARY TEST CHAIRPERSON TRAINING CGA 1 Date: September 24, 2013 1.

Questions for Test Chairpersons? Have you designated a co-test chair to

assist you? Note: Counselors should not be pulled from

their responsibilities as co-test chairs. Scanning

Did you scan…. As you administered tests? Scan at off times (i.e. after school, before

school, weekends if possible?)

Communication

MORNING UPDATES!! Provides a streamlined method of communicating anything

regarding testing Needs to be reviewed on a daily basis Test Chairpersons, Directors, and Region Chiefs

Testing, DAT office, and TOMAS (see “TOMAS System”) Line of Communication

Have you spoken to your test chair? Your AP? Your Principal? Transferring Information To Staff

It is the responsibility of Test Chairperson to relay information to staff

This eliminates repetition of questions and maximizes the use time

Development of Assessments The Curriculum Guide Assessments were developed by DCPS

educators in collaboration with Accountability and Assessment and Academic Services, to develop valid and reliable assessments that can be used to drive instruction and monitor student progress, in order to prepare students to master content and improve performance on statewide assessments.

The Curriculum Guide Assessments (CGAs) will assist schools in: • Monitoring student progress of the Next Generation

Sunshine State Standards (or) Florida Common Core Standards.

• Assisting teachers in making meaningful data driven curricular instructions that will improve the performance of our students on statewide summative assessments.

The purpose of CGA 1 is to determine student mastery of content within the 9 weeks and align directly with the Curriculum Guides (CGs).

13

Page 14: ELEMENTARY TEST CHAIRPERSON TRAINING CGA 1 Date: September 24, 2013 1.

CGA1 vs. Baseline

CGA1 will assess all content covered during the 1st 9 weeks Allows for more questions on each benchmark

varying complexities and difficulty variance in types of questions within the benchmark.

Recommended Test Times Provided on the Next Page Tests are non-secure-

teachers can view items after testing and use them to determine instructional plans.

You’ll want to disseminate those to teachers AFTER accounting for all booklets Idea-coaches can assist with this

Allows for: Deeper disaggregation, analysis and review of data In-depth item analysis while viewing items Benchmark Comparison to measure progress from

baseline

14

Page 15: ELEMENTARY TEST CHAIRPERSON TRAINING CGA 1 Date: September 24, 2013 1.

What’s New?

Kindergarten no longer has CGA 1-3 Only baseline and post

1st Grade will no longer take CGA 1 Will take CGA2, which will essentially be a

midyear assessment combining Curriculum Guide 1 and Curriculum Guide 2

2nd Grade will continue to assess as scheduled Music, Art, and Science are now optional for K-2 What does this mean?

Emphasis on data from the baseline and diagnostics being utilized to drive instruction.

15

Less Assessment=More emphasis on available data

Paper Based vs. Computer Based Assessments

Green Schools-• Schools that have been determined to have

the technological capabilities to administer assessments online.

Schools that have been labeled “green” have the option of administering assessments online.

Schools that have been identified as “red” will administer the test paper and pencil.

Schools have been notified if they qualify as “green” or “red”.

K-2 Important Things to Note EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Emphasize to

Primary students that this is just a test to see what they know. Messaging is very important because we don’t want them to get frustrated!

25

Accommodations must be provided for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and students with 504 plans

Use of accommodations must be dictated by a student’s educational

plan and mirror those consistently being used for curricular instruction.

Reading tests cannot be read to students because the tests are

designed to assess reading comprehension

SPED Accommodations

Note: SPED populations are unique to each school. School trainings and planning should be used to address this. If you need assistance, please contact the appropriate department (Testing, Content, Academic Services, etc.)

See “Accommodations” under Test Chair Supplemental Materials.

Preparation of Materials ChecklistBefore Testing

Designate a co-test chairperson to assist you in preparation of materials. This person should be someone who will not be administering the assessments.

Inventory all CGA 1 materials upon receipt (including assessments, assessment manuals, reference sheets, etc.) • If Materials are missing, contact Instructional

Research and Testing, (904) 858-1450• If additional materials are needed, use TOMAS

system to order.

Ensure that all testing materials are kept in a secure location.

29

Preparation of Materials ChecklistBefore Testing

Once the assessments are published (Sept. 30): Begin printing scan sheets. Ensure that there is at least one bubble sheet per

student per class. Notify Appropriate Department for Concerns (see

“Who to Contact”)•Make sure you are using Firefox!

If computer based testing, check to make sure that all computers are working.

Prepare a calendar for the administration of assessments. Go over testing administration calendar and administration guidelines with teachers prior to testing.

See “Test Chairperson Flowchart Revised”

basis.• Best times to Scan:

o Early morningo After School and Late Hourso Weekends (if building is open)

Continually monitor for new students for make-ups. Trouble Shooting the Scanning Process

• Check to make sure scanners work prior to administration

• Work with feeder pattern and neighbor schools • Contact Testing (904-858-1450) or Data and

Assessment Team (904- 390-2678) for assistance.
