OperationScraping
2nd Step: Plane scrapingInthiscase,scrapingisperformedparalleltotheopposingcorners.This
procedure requires a somewhat shorter stroke (6mm to 12mm) and a
narrowerblade(15mm,20mmor25mm).
Afterthesurfacehasbeenprescraped,thepointprojectingfromtheplane
orbearingaccuracyarescrapeduntilasatisfactoryresultisobtained.
3rd Step: Finish scrapingThe quality of the surface to be scraped increases with the number of
bearingpoints. Initially,bearingpointsarelargeandexistonlyinasmall
number. If the stroke is reduced (2mm to 6mm) and if 15mm or 20mm
scrapingtoolsareused,thelargebearingpointsarescrapedoffprovided
thatnopressureisappliedwhenguidingthescraperoverthesurface(itis
notnecessarytoraisethescraper).Arhythmcanbequicklydevelopedand
theresultisthatseveralandsmallerbearingpointsaredistributedoverthe
entiresurface.
1st Step: PrescrapingThe part to be trimmel has already been prepared (precision milled,
dressedorground).Thefirstscrapingstepcreatesthebase.
Formachinescraping,abladeorscrapinginsert(25mmor30mm)witha
largecutterradius(dependingonthesizeoftheworkpiece)andastroke
of12mmto20mmarechosen.Thecutterofthescrapingtoolisplaced
onto the workpiece at an angle of approx. 45°. The scraper is moved
horizontallyacrosstheworkpieceataspeedthatallowsthestroketojust
overlap.Afterscrapingthecompletesurface,thisprocedure isrepeated
onceagainandat90°tothefirstscrape.
Precision scraping, resp. oil-tight scrapingThemaximumnumberofbearingpoints(mostly24-40persquareinch)results
in the distribution of fine and extremely fines recesses of 2-3µ. They cause
goodadhesionoftheoilfilmandthusconsiderablereducetheconditionof
mixedfrictionduringstart-up.Thedepthoftheoilpocketisdeterminedbythe
demands,whichwilllaterbeplacedonthescrapedsurface.Largeloadsrequire
relatively deep oil pockets (approx. 6-8µ) in order to guarantee the perfect
formationofanoilfilmevenafteralongperiodofoperation.Anoilpocket
depth of approx 2-4µ is expedient for low loads. The deep oil pockets are
obtainedbyusingaspring-temperedscraperbladewithasmallradius.
However,flatterrecessesareobtainedwithalargebladeradius.Thechoiceof
thescrapercontactangleisalsoimportant.Alargecontactanglecausesdeep
oilpockets,andasmallcontactanglecausesflatoilpockets.Dependingonthe
appearanceofthepoints,inprecisionandoil-tightscrapingthesearehandled
moreorlessintensively,dependingontheirbearingcapacity.Inordertoobtain
an interspersed appearance, the surface is scraped in four directions each
displacedby90°andthuspatternscrapingisunnecessary.Surfacesscrapedthis
waylooklikearbitrarilycomposedchessboards.Inanycase,thesameamount
of bearing points will be obtained as if the surface were handscraped. The
