The Hardware Store™ by Bi-Link Comes to San Diego

Bloomingdale, Illinois (July 1st, 2015): Bi-Link is preparing to launch its second location of The Hardware Store™ in San Diego, California on July 21, 2015, from 4:00-6:00 pm. The Hardware Store™ by Bi-Link is an open atmosphere developed outside Bi-Link’s headquarters. It’s a technology-driven space for engineers made by engineers, with all the tools and resources necessary to push the boundaries on design projects. The first Hardware Store™ premiered last November at the Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, North Carolina and received a positive response from the community. Following the premiere, Jacob Newbauer, Community Manager of the Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, N.C., stated, “They [Bi-Link] recognize the plethora of R&D companies we have here and how they need a third space to be more than a coffee shop — they need tools and gadgets and a place specifically designed for the engineering mind.” A unique feature of The Hardware Store™ is the Midnight Lunch™ Lab. In collaboration with Sarah Miller Caldicott, great-grandniece of Thomas Edison and author of the book Midnight Lunch, the Midnight Lunch™ Lab is designed to ignite innovation like Edison. Caldicott is involved with the San Diego launch and will be present opening day. Also making an appearance is MakingChips, a manufacturing podcast that recently hit over 10,000 downloads. Hosts Jim Carr of CARR Machine & Tool and Jason Zenger of ZENGER Industrial Supply will be recording live and interviewing attendees. Bi-Link chose San Diego as a second location due to its high demand for engineer support and its development as a hub for technology companies, in a wide range of industries. Tim Higby, Bi-Link’s California Technical Liaison, states, “San Diego, one of America’s finest cities with all its diversity and rich history, provides the perfect backdrop for engineers and entrepreneurs to collaborate freely.” About Bi-Link Bi-Link is a global manufacturing company founded in 1961 offering a full-range of capabilities including open innovation, prototyping, injection molding, metal stamping, and assembly services. Bi-link collaborates with engineering teams to solve complex design challenges from the early “what if” stage through full-scale manufacturing. CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS – JUNE 22, 2015 Micah Maidenberg, Why Silicon Valley’s giants buy parts from this suburban job shop The headquarters of Bi-Link is a white box in a quiet section of suburban Bloomingdale. It's not the type of place that attracts attention from drivers passing by on Glen Ellyn Road. From its industrial-park home, though, the contract manufacturer has won work from some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley and helms a global operation with 1,500 employees. SOLIDSMACK – MAY 8, 2014 Josh Mings, Bi-Link Tells You How to Get Your Product Manufactured (and Reduce the Pain of the Process) We’re living in a world of daily product launches. If you’re reading this, you’re likely considering your own or, at the very least, dream of making riches by bringing the ultimate, life-altering product to market. Whether that is done through crowd sourcing, investor sourcing or mother-in-law sourcing, there will always be a point when that brilliant idea needs to become a brilliant reality. Manufacturing. It’s the gray area; the “part they don’t tell you about in school.” Read the full article >

SUPPLY & DEMAND CHAIN EXECUTIVE – APRIL 29, 2014 Ray Ziganto, American Hustle: U.S. Manufacturers Need to Lose their Maintain Mentality A U.S. Manufacturing Renaissance is far from a given. If ever there was a time for manufacturing companies to be out in front, now is it. So why are many mid-market manufacturers still operating like it’s the Dark Ages—in silos reminiscent of medieval craft guilds? Read the full article >

WHO WE ARE We collaborate with engineering teams to solve complex design challenges from the early, “what if” stage through full-scale manufacturing. With Bi-Link you get components and sub-assemblies in plastic and metal delivered on your schedule — across the globe, from our factories, where you need them.

WHAT WE DO Our full range of capabilities includes Open Innovation, prototyping, injection molding, metal stamping, and assembly services.

Open Innovation You can talk to us. Bi-Link redefines the role a manufacturer plays in the early stages of product development. Engineering teams get critical feedback at the early “pre-prototype” stage — getting you from the first idea to the next level. Our advanced digital manufacturing technologies allow you to have a few 3-D printed parts in hours and molded parts in days (not weeks).

Prototyping Bi-Link has a full range of in-house prototyping capabilities in North America and Asia. Unlike “proto-only” shops, we apply what we learn through the Open Innovation stage to supply the first quantity of real parts. You get the right parts, extremely fast, with no upcharges and no asterisks.

Injection Molding Bi-Link is a multi-capable molder. Beyond conventional molding, we leverage our metal stamping expertise to provide insert- and over-molded components. That single-source advantage means reduced total component costs and no potential supplier conflict.

Metal Stamping A good part starts with a great tool. Bi-Link’s tools are all designed and built in-house. We’re in total control of quality as well as delivery; in fact, we set the bar for tool lead-time. We also set the bar for creating unconventional solutions where others hit a roadblock. From mobile phones and medical devices to countless automotive applications, we’ve seen — and done — it all.

Assembly Services Here too, Bi-Link is highly vertically integrated. Our secondary services encompass everything from laser welding, packaging and pad printing to automation, assembly and more. Complementing our in-house assembly capability, we use Bi-Link’s global footprint to source the best, the world over.
