The ScottishPower sponsored Engineering Foundation Programme is one of the many ways we are investing in young people. Students who attend this programme at Edinburgh College form part of ScottishPower’s business strategy to grow our technical talent pipeline, as we address the challenges of replenishing our workforce in response to the skills shortage in Engineering.

SCOTTISHPOWER

Students attend college for 18 weeks and will spend time at ScottishPower’s training facility at Cumbernauld. Here they are continually assessed for attendance, attitude and attainment, and dependant on business needs, the overall top performing students could be offered apprenticeships with ScottishPower.

Edinburgh College runs an Electrical Engineering NC course which attracts sponsorship from ScottishPower. Students receive £200 a month from ScottishPower on top of their bursary payment.

Our affiliated ScottishPower course offers the chance to gain an apprenticeship.

Rhys originally started at Edinburgh College as a full-time student and studied a range of subjects including electrical principles, maths, testing and measurement and wiring skills. On completing the Electrical Engineering NC Higher course he successfully gained an apprenticeship through Trained Up and secured a position with Forth Ports Plc. As part of his training he returned to Edinburgh College to complete the practical element.

“Studying at Edinburgh College has helped a great amount as the courses are tailored perfectly for the industry I work in. Before I got an apprenticeship the NC helped prepare me for the job and gave me an advantage when it came to interviews and applications”

We train apprentices from a range of companies such as EDF, Leonardo, NHS and, most recently, Virgin Trains.
