Advantage of HBC fuses:

1. They have no mechanical moving parts.

2. The declared rating is accurate.

3. The element does not weaken with age.

4. Their operation is very rapid under fault conditions.

5. They are capable of breaking very heavy fault currents safely.

6. They are capable of discriminating between a persistent fault and a transient fault such as the large starting

current taken by motors.

7. It is difficult to insert an incorrect size of cartridge fuse since different ratings are made to different physical sizes.

Disadvantage of HBC fuses:

They are very expensive compared to semi-enclosed fuses.
