THE WIND RISES (PG-13) Dir. Hayao Miyazaki - 2013

Japan - 2hr 6min

‘The Wind Rises’ is one of

Miyazaki’s most beautiful films -

a partly fictionalised biopic of a

Japanese aircraft Designer. This breathtakingly stunning animation

has been crafted with hand-drawn attention to detail - a rich treat

for the eyes and soul alike. Inspired by (and a tribute to) the life of

second world war Zero fighter plane designer Jiro Horikoshi, and the

writings of Tatsuo Hori.

“A work of immense mystery and strangeness, loaded with

unforgettable images, spectacular sweeps of colour and

nested, hidden meanings.” - Salon.com

Russia - 2hr 20min

The latest drama from Andrey

Zvyagintsev, is a sober and

compelling tragic drama of corruption and intimidation in

learn Kolia is facing the prospect his business, home and land

being taken from him. After his appeal is denied he must resort to

more aggressive tactics in hopes of keeping his land.

this is film-making on a grand scale.” - The Guardian

BOYHOOD (15)

Dir. Richard Linklater - 2014

USA - 2hr 45min

Starring: Ellar Coltrane, Ethan Hawke,

Patricia Arquette, Lorelei Linklater

Filmed over 12 years with the

same cast, Richard Linklater's

‘Boyhood’ is a groundbreaking

story of growing up. The film

charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before,

with snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners

to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between.

This is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode

to growing up and parenting.

“Boyhood is not just a genuine epic, not just beautiful and

moving, it looks like a classic already.” - This is London
