! WARNING: Read all safety warnings and all instructions. failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

WORK AREA SAFETY• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of

flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. distractions can cause you to lose control.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not

use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

• If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCd reduces the risk of electric shock.

PERSONAL SAFETY• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a

power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

• Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack and when picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

• Do not over-reach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

POWER TOOL USE AND CARE• Do not force the power tool. Use the power tool for your application. The correct power tool

will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that

cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power

tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

• Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

SERVICE• Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical

replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

CHAIN SAW SAFETY WARNINGS• Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain when the chainsaw is operating.

Before you start the chainsaw, make sure the saw chain is not in contact with anything. A moment of inattention while operating chainsaws may cause entanglement of your clothing

! WARNING (Proposition 65): Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are: •lead from lead-based paints,•crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry

products, and•arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.

Your risk of exposure to these chemicals varies depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals, work in a well-ventilated area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.

or body with the saw chain.• Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand

on the front handle. Holding the chainsaw with a reversed hand configuration increases the risk of personal injury and should never be done.

• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain many contact hidden wiring. Saw chains contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

• Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Further protective equipment for head, hands, legs and feet is recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce personal injury by flying debris or accidental contact with the saw chain.

• Do not operate chainsaw while up in a tree. Operation of a chainsaw while up in a tree may result in personal injury.

• Always keep proper footing and operate the chainsaw only when standing on fixed, secure and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause loss of balance or control of the chainsaw.

• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert of spring back. When the tension in the wood fibers is released, the spring loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the chainsaw out of control.

• Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.

• Carry the chainsaw by the front handle with the chainsaw switched off and away from your body. When transporting or storing the chainsaw always fit the guide bar cover. Proper handling of the chainsaw will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving saw chain.

• Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback.

• Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery, causing loss of control.

• Cut wood only. Do not use chainsaw for purposes not intended. For example: do not use chainsaw for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the chainsaw for operations other than those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

• Contact of the guide-bar tip with any object should be avoided.• Tip contact may cause the guide bar to move suddenly upward and backward, which may

cause serious injury.• Always use two hands when operating the chainsaw.

ADDITIONAL WARNINGSThe first-time user should, as a minimum practice, cutting logs on a saw-horse or cradle. It has been reported that vibrations from hand-held tools may contribute to a condition called Reynaud’s Syndrome in certain individuals. Symptoms may include tingling, numbness and blanching of the fingers, usually apparent upon exposure to cold. Hereditary factors, exposure to cold and dampness, diet, smoking and work practices are all thought to contribute to the development of these symptoms. It is presently unknown what, if any, vibrations or extent of exposure may contribute to the condition. There are measures that can be taken by the operator to possibly reduce the effects of vibration:1. Keep your body warm in cold weather. When operating the unit wear gloves to keep the hands and wrists warm. It is reported that cold weather is a major factor contributing to Raynaud’s Syndrome.2. After each period of operation, exercise to increase blood circulation.3. Take frequent work breaks. limit the amount of exposure per day.

If you experience any of the symptoms of this condition, immediately discontinue use and see your physician about these symptoms.1. The recommended cutting capacity of this chainsaw is 6” (15.2 cm) and smaller to prolong the life of the tool and allow for safest operation. Cutting logs with a diameter larger than this will cause excess wear on your tool. logs with a maximum diameter of 10” (25.4 cm) can be cut, but should only be done so rarely and with caution.2. The integral spiked bumper is designed to assist cutting. When forced against the log while cutting it provides a more stable pivot point.3. Any chainsaw is potentially lethal if used inappropriately. It is strongly suggested that you seek professional training in the safety and use of this tool.

CAUSES AND OPERATOR PREVENTION OF KICKBACK (See Fig. 1 – 2)

Fig. 1

ROTATIONALKICKBACK

Fig. 2

KICKBACKDANGER ZONE

Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator.Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious personal injury. do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into your saw. As a chainsaw user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury.Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below:

a. Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles, with both hands on the saw and position your body and arm allow you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. do not let go of the chainsaw.b. Do not overreach and do not cut above shoulder height. This helps prevent unintended tip contact and enables better control of the chainsaw in unexpected situations.c. Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars and chains may cause chain breakage and/or kickback.d. Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback.

PREPARATION FOR CUTTING (SEE FIG. 12 – 13)•Wear non-slip gloves for maximum grip and protection.•Maintain a proper grip on the unit whenever the motor is running. Use your right hand to

firmly grip the rear handle while your left hand has a firm grip on the pole shaft.•Hold the unit firmly with both hands. Always keep your left hand on the pole shaft and your

right hand on the rear handle, so your body is to the left of the chain line. Never use a left-handed (cross-handed) grip, or any stance that places your body or arm across the chain line.

•Never stand directly under the limb you are cutting.•Be certain the collars are fully tightened before operating equipment; check them

periodically for tightness during use to avoid serious injury.

BASIC CUTTING PROCEDURE

follow the steps below to prevent damage to tree or shrub bark. do not use a back-and-forth sawing motion.•Make a shallow first cut (1/4 of limb diameter) on the underside of the limb close to the main

limb or trunk.•Make a second cut from the top side of the limb outboard from the first cut. Continue the cut

through the limb until the limb separates from the tree. Be prepared to balance the weight of the tool when the limb falls.

•Make a final cut close to trunk.

NOTE: For the second and final cuts (from the top of the limb or branch) hold the front cutting guide against the limb being cut. This will help steady the limb and make it easier to cut. Allow the chain to cut for you; exert only light downward pressure. If you force the cut, damage to the bar, chain, or motor can result.

•Release the trigger as soon as the cut is completed. failure to follow proper cutting procedures will result in the bar and chain binding and becoming pinched or trapped in the limb. If this should happen:

•Stop the motor and remove the battery from the pole saw.•If the limb can be reached from the ground, lift the limb while holding the saw. This should

release the “pinch” and free the saw.•If the saw is still trapped, call a professional for assistance.

LIMBING AND PRUNING (SEE FIG. 14 – 15)

This unit is designed for trimming small branches and limbs up to 6” (15.2 cm) in diameter. for best results, observe the following precautions.

•Plan the cut carefully. Be aware of the direction in which the branch will fall.•Branches may fall in unexpected directions. do not stand directly under the branch being

cut.•The most typical cutting application is to position the unit at an angle of 60° or less,

depending on the specific situation, as shown. As the angle of the pole saw shaft to ground increases, the difficulty of making the first cut (from the underside of limb) increases.

•Remove long branches in several stages.•Cut lower branches first to allow the top branches more room to fall.•Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw with a firm grip. Maintain secure footing and

balance.•Keep the tree between you and the chain while limbing. Cut from side of tree opposite branch

you are cutting.•do not cut from a ladder; this is extremely dangerous. leave this operation for professionals.•following proper cutting procedures will prevent stripping the bark from the main member.•do not use the pole saw for felling or bucking.•To prevent electrocution, do not operate within 50’ (15 m) of overhead electrical lines.•Keep bystanders at least 50’ (15 m) away.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use a clean cloth to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc. All pole saw service, other than the items listed in the instruction manual maintenance instructions, should be performed by competent pole saw service personnel.

WARNING: When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage.

WARNING: When servicing, use only authorised replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage.

WARNING: Before inspecting, cleaning or servicing the unit, stop the motor, wait for all moving parts to stop, and unplug the electric cord. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious personal injury or property damage.

WARNING: Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc., come in contact with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken, or destroy plastic, which may result in serious personal injury.

CHAIN TENSION (SEE FIG. 16 – 17)•Stop the motor and disconnect from power supply before setting the chain tension. Make

sure the guide bar nut is loose enough to finger tighten. Turn the chain tensioning screw (see fig. 19) clockwise to tension the chain. Refer to Replacing the Bar and Chain for additional information.

•The chain must be retensioned whenever the flats on the drive links hang out of the bar groove as shown in fig. 16.

•during normal operation, the temperature of the chain will increase. The drive links of a correctly tensioned warm chain will hang approximately 1/16” (1.3 mm) out of the bar groove, as shown in fig. 17.

WARNING: Chain tensioned while warm, may be too tight upon cooling. Check the “cold tension” before next use.

WARNING: To avoid possible serious injury, never touch or adjust the chain while the motor is running. The saw chain is very sharp; always wear protective gloves when performing maintenance to the chain.

NOTE: A cold chain is correctly tensioned when there is no slack on the underside of the guide bar, the chain is snug, but it can be turned by hand without binding.

NOTE: New chain tends to stretch; check chain tension frequently and tension as required.

REPLACING THE BAR AND CHAIN (SEE FIG. 18 – 21)•Remove the lock knob and chain cover.•The bar contains a bar stud slot that fits over the bar stud. The bar also contains a chain

tensioning pin hole that fits over the chain tensioning pin.•Place the bar onto the bar stud so that the chain tensioning pin fits into the chain

tensioning pin hole. fit the chain over the sprocket and into the bar groove. The cutters on the top of the bar should face toward the bar tip, in the direction of the chain rotation.

•Replace the chain cover and install the lock knob. Tighten the lock knob finger tight only. The bar must be free to move for tension adjustment.

•Remove all slack from the chain by turning the chain tensioning bolt clockwise, assuring that the chain seats into the bar groove during tensioning.

•lift the tip of the bar up to check for sag. Release the tip of the bar, and turn the chain tensioning bolt 1/2 turn clockwise.

•Repeat this process until the sag no longer exists.•Hold the tip of the bar up and tighten the locked bolt securely.

•The chain is correctly tensioned when there is no slack on the underside of the bar, the chain is snug, and it can be turned by hand without binding.

CHAIN OILER (SEE FIG. 22) •Use a lubricant that is designed for chains and chain oilers and is formulated to perform over

a wide temperature range with no dilution required.•Remove the cap and carefully pour approximately 2 oz (110 ml) of bar and chain lubricant

into the bar lube reservoir.•Replace the cap and tighten securely.•Check and refill the bar lube reservoir every time the pole saw is used.

NOTE: If the chain is too tight, it will not rotate. Loosen the bar nut slightly and turn adjusting bolt 1/4 turn counter-clockwise. Lift the tip of the bar up and retighten the lock knob.

NOTE: Do not use dirty, used, or otherwise contaminated lubricants. Damage may occur to the oil pump, bar, or chain.

CHAIN MAINTENANCE (SEE FIG. 23)

for smooth and fast cutting, the chain needs to be maintained properly. The following conditions indicate that the chain requires sharpening:

•Wood chips are small and powdery.•The chain must be forced through the wood during cutting.•The chain cuts to one side.

during maintenance of the chain, consider the following:

•Improper fling angle of the side plate can increase the risk of a severe kickback.•depth gauge (or raker clearance) setting determines the height the cutter enters the

wood and the size of the wood chip that is removed. Too much clearance increases the potential for kickbacks. Too little clearance decreases the size of the wood chip thus decreasing the chain’s cutting ability.

•If cutter teeth have hit hard objects such as nails and stones, or have been abraded by mud or sand on the wood, have a service dealer sharpen the chain.

Raker (Depth Gauge) Clearance

28

HOW TO SHARPEN THE CUTTERS (SEE FIG. 24 – 27)

Be careful to file all cutters to the specified angles and to the same length, as fast cutting can be obtained only when all cutters are uniform.

•Tighten the chain tension enough so that the chain does not wobble. do all of your filing at the midpoint of the bar. Wear gloves for protection.

•Use a round file and holder.•Keep the file level with the top plate of the tooth. do not let the file dip nor rock.•Using light but firm pressure, stroke towards the front corner of the tooth. lift the file away

from the steel on each return stroke.•Put a few firm strokes on every tooth. file all left hand cutters in one direction. Then move

to the other side and file the right hand cutters in the opposite direction. Occasionally remove filings from the file with a wire brush.

WARNING: Dull or improperly sharpened chains can cause excessive motor speed during cutting which may result in severe motor damage.

QUICK REFERENCE OF CHAIN & BAR ASSEMBLY (SCREW TENSION)

NOTE:

- Chains stretch with use; check and tension often.- Never tension a warm chain before storing, as chains

shrink when cool, this can damage chain, bar and saw.

!

1. Release chain tension by turning the tensioning screw, located behind the chain bar, counter clockwise.

2. Unscrew the locking knob. 3. Remove the cover.

4. The bar and chain can now be removed by lifting them away from the main body of the saw and releasing the chain from the drive pulley.

5. The pole saw can now be cleaned with a brush and or rag to remove sawdust and oil.

6. To replace the bar and chain, loop the chain over the drive pulley and place the bar against the centre alignment groove.

7. Ensure that the adjusting block is located in the tensioning hole on the chain bar...

8. ...and that the rubber block and chain bar are free from oil, as this helps to keep tension on the chain.

9. Replace the side cover and locking knob, but do not tighten.

10. Using a screwdriver on the tensioning screw...turn clockwise.

11. ...until there is enough play so that the chain can be pulled away from the bar, but not so much that the runners can be pulled out of the bar.

12. Once you have the correct tension, fully tighten the locking knob.

GUIDELINES FOR USING EXTENSION CORDS

USE THE PROPER ExTENSION CORd. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one of heavy enough gauge to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause overheating. The table below shows the correct size to use depending on cord length and nameplate amperage rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.

Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord, or have it repaired by a qualified person before using it.Keep your extension cords away from sharp objects, excessive heat and damp or wet areas.Use a separate electrical circuit for your tools. This circuit should not be less than #12 wire, and should be protected with a 15 A time-delayed fuse. Before connecting the motor to the power line, make sure the switch is in the Off position and the electric current is rated the same as the current stamped on the motor nameplate. Running at a lower voltage will damage the motor.
