Electricity
Now that you’ve learned about circuits, powering bulbs and motors, lets combine
this knowledge with saving the planet.
ElectricityElectricity is the most common form of energy we use at home and at school. It is a secondary energy source, which
means that we get it by converting other sources of energy, such as:
coal oil
natural gas
nuclear energy hydropower solar energy wind power
Some of these energy sources are not renewable , create pollution, and waste. Others provide energy that people haven’t discovered how to store. Which would you use? Why? What are the benefits
and the drawbacks?
You’re using Energy when…You drive to the store You wash your hands
You turn on a computer
Think of all the things you do from when you get up in the morning until you go to bed at night that require an outside source of energy. It’s a long list,
isn’t it?
Think about number of people there are all over the world and how much energy is being consumed. We all have to
find ways to conserve energy. What does that mean?Energy conservation means reducing unnecessary energy use and waste. Consuming less energy also reduces the amount of carbon dioxide and other pollutants released
into the atmosphere. To see some simple ways that people can conserve energy click on the link below.

Now it is your turn.
You and 3 other students are going to make your own brochure. It has to contain:
• energy-saving actions people can take • explains why saving energy is important.• list the pros and cons of one source of
alternative energy You will find all the links, clip art, and photos to use on the
computer desktop folder named Energy Brochure.
